9/10. Great movie! Top Gun is a fighter pilot training facility designed to pick out the best fighter pilots and turn them into The Best Of The Best - in particular, to teach them to `dogfight,' a skill which seems to have been largely lost due to the convenience of missiles and locking mechanisms. There's a little romance thrown in here and there to appeal to the women.
As I said before, this is a great movie. The acting was superb. Tom Cruise was excellent as Maverick. He was a little arrogant but he lost that towards the end of the film. I liked Anthony Edwards a lot. He was Goose. He was very funny, and when he and Tom were teamed up together, they made a great comidic team. Goose took pictures while flying upside down next to an enemy plane, and gave the enemy the "bird". Though, I was sad to watch that he died. There was a flat spin, and when he and Tom ejected, Goose was killed on the spot because of the window hitting him. They shouldn't have had him die. It was just too sad.
I have to note that the effects were great. It was nominated for effects but didn't win. I was amazed at all of the fighter sequences. Since this was in the 80's, all of it seemed to have been real. I was reading that during the flat spin sequence, the stunt guy died. I was sorry and sad to hear that.
The fliming was superb too. It had to be or you wouldn't have gotten the good shots for the dogfight sequences. I was truly amazed. They stuck a camera on the back of a plane and it just got amazing shots.
All in all, this was a great movie, and there's truly nothing that objectionable except language. Rent it or even better buy it!
