8/10. This is a story about 2 con men. When a mutual friend is killed by a mob boss, two con men, one experienced and one young try to get even by pulling off the big con on the mob boss. The story unfolds with several twists and last minute alterations.
This was quite an interesting movie. It was made in the 1970's and actually has a plot compared to some movies today. I was impressed on how some of the situations turned out, especially the end. When one thing happens, another thing changes what you thought would happen. Since this was made in the 1970's, there were no digital effects added to the movie. Though, this movie didn't need them.
The acting was well done. Robert Redford as Johnny Hooker was pretty funny. "Luther said I could learn some things from you. I already know how to drink." Paul Newman was great too. I'm pretty sure he's played in some movie that I've seen recently, but I just can't remember which. The rest of the acting was ok.
Now, the scandal that the whole entire gang was trying to pull off was huge. As described above, they were trying to pull off one of the bigger cons that they've attempted. They set up a horse betting place where everyone in there is trying to get the mob boss's money and split it up amongst the gang. I was surprised at what lengths they would go at to get back at him for killing Luther.
The last note I have is the little cards that they had explaining what part of the movie that was going to happen next. All in all, this is a great classic. See it!
