Rater #1
6/10. Unable to convince the ruling council of Krypton that their world will destroy itself soon, scientist Jor-El takes drastic measures to preserve the Kryptonian race: He sends his infant son Kal-El to Earth. There, gaining great powers under Earth's yellow sun, he will become a champion of truth and justice. Raised by the Kents, an elderly farm couple, Clark Kent learns that his abilities must be used for good. The adult Clark travels to Metropolis, where he becomes a mild-mannered reporter for the Daily Planet...and a caped wonder whose amazing feats stun the city: Superman! Meanwhile, Lex Luthor, the world's greatest criminal mind, is plotting the greatest real estate swindle of all time. Can't even the Man of Steel stop this nefarious scheme?
Ok, let me get this off my chest. The movie was ok, sometimes or most of the time slow. It was 143 minutes and it seemed to drag on for a while. But in some parts like the saving the world, it got more exciting.
Just things that I would love to understand about the movie. The beginning: I didn't understand the crime thing at all, being trapped in a triangle, and not really be restricted from 2 circles that are revolving around you. Then the people didn't even look semi-real. I was saying to myself, they look like bad clay figures. Let's see, what else? The special effects were kind of bad in comparison to our standards of today. It was like a slow liftoff, and it seemed like he was actually being pulled up on wires. Then he changed his clothes while falling from a window or inside one of those revolving doors. Isn't Superman known for changing in red telephone booths? I didn't see one in the film.
The acting was ok. Christopher seemed like he got pushed around a lot with his character. His hairstyle was kind of funky too. Really funky. I know I've seen other movies with Gene Hackman in them, but I just can't place a finger on it. Must of been something that I've seen recently. The rest of the cast was hunky dory.
On one last note, I think this movie will be remade sooner or later. Maybe it'll be Tobey Macguire again. He was good in Spiderman. I think they are coming out with a Superman movie in 2005. So we'll be watching for that.
