Rater #1
7/10. Number 5, one of a group of experimental military robots, undergoes a sudden transformation after being struck by lightning. He develops self-awareness, consciousness, and a fear of the reprogramming that awaits him back at the factory. With the help of a young woman, Number 5 tries to evade capture and convince his creator that he has truly become alive.
I was thinking at the beginning of the movie, "How did I get dragged into this." While 2 phone calls interuptted the movie, I found this very enjoyable. I was impressed and sort of not impressed with the technology in this movie. The laser effects shooting out from the robots were not realistic at all. I have no clue what they were but they didn't look realistic. But when you saw the robots, Geeze, they looked good. They all moved pretty lifelike, and you saw them as a whole some of the time. Whole body, and head. They moved around with ease. Though, they probably had like 20 different robots to do 20 different functions. By the end of the movie, #5 looked the most lifelike.
The casting was truly hilarious. There were many one liners, but they were funny one liners. "I have seen some strange, bizarre drivers, but you! You will be awarded a cake!" Steven Guttenberg played Newton Crosby. He wasn't funny unless he was paired up with his partner, Ben Jabituya. Steven seemed to joke around a lot, and acted like a kid. Ben Jabituya was played by Fisher Stevens. Fisher had the most funny one liners. He is from India or somewhere around there because that's what his accent sounds like. His words only made partial sense like the quote above.
All in all, this was a very cute movie, and should be seen by families.
