5/10. With a rather short opening sequence, the movie starts off with a little kid wanting to play football at the beach. Charlie Carbone is your average kid who's lost his dad. His beautiful mom meets an ugly and feared character, and decides to marry him. Sal, the new step-father, is the leader of a mob gang. He has a son who was fresh out of jail. They're all at the beach and the son throws the ball into the water so Charlie can fetch it. Charlie, not knowing how to swim, almost drowns, but is saved by Louis Booker, who turns out to be his new friend.
Flash forward 20 years. Charlie now owns a hair salon, and Louis is still hanging around him. Louis always has some mischieveous way to earn money, and this time he's hit big....He begs Charlie to come with him to deliver some T.V.'s to a warehouse, and Charlie agrees. They screw up the job, and unbeknownst to them, it was Sal's warehouse. They screwed up big time. So, Sal sends them both to Australia with a package, and give it to a Mr. Smith.
Let me tell you, right off the bat, this was better than my expectations. Mind you, my expectations for this movie was a 3/10 or 4/10.
Acting was pretty interesting in this movie. Jerry O' Connell was a kind of funny guy, but I thought it was weird that he worked out a hair salon. Anthony Anderson was pretty funny as Louis Booker. He provided the many gags. "He has the money, I put the money in the jacket and the jacket on the kangaroo, and now he's hopping away." Estella Warren seems to me that she will be one of the more prettier actors as her movie career goes on.
Now, what I found interesting about this movie was in fact the kangaroo. Jackie Legs, the kangaroo, is a CGI, computer graphic image. He looked like a real talking, and walking kangaroo. Now compare him to Scooby Doo. Which looks better? The Kangaroo of course. The people who did Scooby Doo seemed to do as little as possible for Scooby. He looked more like a shaved poodle than a Great Dane (or whatever breed he is). The kangaroo was a real character that specifically stood out in my mind.
On a couple of notes that I have to end with. The humor in this seemed to be more above a PG movie. Mind you that there was no cussing, I think, just really bad humor. If you listen to what Louis and Charlie are saying in the bathroom in the airplane, then you'll get what I mean. It probably went a little over children's heads, but it was funny to listen to as an adult. The other part was the 2nd "mirage". It was when Charlie was squishin' the girl and he got conked on the head. To me that was very funny, but kids wouldn't have understood that. Then again, if they hadn't put that in there, some other genres may have not liked the movie.
All in all, see the movie if you've got a 10 year old or younger because they'll appreciate the movie a lot better than you.
