6/10. The Baker family of 12 move from small-town Illinois to the big city after Tom Baker (Martin) gets his dream job to coach is alma mater football team. Meanwhile, his wife (Hunt) also gets her dream of getting her book published. While she's away promoting the book, Tom has a hard time keeping the house in order while at the same time coaching his football team as the once happy family starts falling apart
This movie, like most movies of today, was a remake of a the same titled movie and plot from 30-40 years ago. I have not seen the original movie but it probably has to be better. The cast was fairly played out but only a few stood out as being great or extremely bad.
Steve Martin plays Tom Baker and he did an extremely funny job in his character. In the movies that I've seen of him now a days, he seems to play a goofball, but it still looks funny. Even his days on SNL, he still seems funny. He'll take that talent and make many funny movies for years to come, but some of today's actors aren't doing so well. Hilary Duff, for example, seems like a very rude individual, and appears that way on film. Her character only cares about money, appearance, and boys. I see that in her real life too, and that's probably why she was casted the way she was. All I can say about her is that she wants more money, ie: no more shows for her hit show Lizzie McGuire unless she gets more money, blowing up at the premire of this movie at Lindsey Lohan, star of 2003's Freak Friday.
Piper Perado was pretty cute looking and I wouldn't mind her being my girlfriend. Her character didn't seem to be utilized enough to control the family, or it was done on purpose. Bonnie Hunt did a fine job as the mother of all these children. I just want to know how any woman could go through 8 different child births.
I will say this: This movie in no way could win an Oscar or a Globe award. It's family oriented and these types of movies never win that stuff. If you wanted an award for worst actor, put Hilary Duff up. She'll win that one for sure.
All in all, even though I ripped this movie quite a bit, it was still funny, and kids are going to probably want to see it.
