5/10. In Adam Sandler's racous new comedy Eight Crazy Nights, he voices
Davey Stone, 33. He's a town drunk and nobody likes him: he's cruel,
he's mean-spirited, and he's brash. But when he gets arrested for
running out on a check and knocking out giant ice-sculptures of Santa
and a menorah, Davey has to help referee junior basketball at the JCC
(Jewish Community Center) with Whitey Duvall (Sandler). Various comic
mishaps ensue.
Well, that's kind of the plot. There actually isn't one. Davey pretty
much runs around in his small town and causes havoc. Overall, there
were more ewws than has. Almost everything related to bodily
functions happen. Not much of it was funny.
Oh, did you know it was a musical? That's right, a 71 minute musical.
About five songs populated the rampaging script, and a new Chanukah
song played through the credits. The songs were enjoyable and a lot
of times funny, but I can't remember the tune any of them.
Many scenes took place in a mall. Guess who their sponsors were?
Maybe Foot Locker, Panda Express, KB Toys, Victoria's Secret, Pepsi,
and Spencer's Gifts? It did seem rather shameless, but maybe Columbia
is having some financial problems they aren't telling us. It really
is none of my business, just wanted to share that.
Some jokes were funny, mainly the ones that weren't sight-gags or
anything related to bodily functions. Eleanore, Whitey's sister, was
pretty humorous. While I'm on the subject of characters, there seemed
to be too many characters just placed in to flow the movie together.
The Mayor, the winner of the pin, Jennifer (whom we know nothing
about), and others from that vein.
Eight Crazy Nights is a sometimes funny but always gross with some
good but non-lasting songs.
