| Satine sighed; their circumstances were so different, yet their outlook was exactly the same. She moved and lay her head in Christians lap, she could listen to him talk all night. However, Satine had done her fair share of talking. Christian listened intently when she told him how she first came into the business and later adopted the people at the Moulin Rouge as her surrogate family. They had spent the night revealing some of their most intimate secrets to each other, without fear of reprisal or embarrassment and both felt more connected as a result. They lapsed into a period of reflective silence. Christian was absentmindedly stroking Satines upper arm, as she lay quiet in his lap. Satine was idly tracing random patterns on his thigh with her index finger. They were both content in the silence of each others company. It was the kind that usually only friends or lovers who had known each other for years could comfortably share. Their relationship just seemed to progress so fast that they felt like they had known each other for years. No words were needed, as long as they had some form of physical contact they lay quietlytogether. Whats happening to me? Satine thought. No ones ever been so interested in what Ive had to say for...for as long as I can remember. This feeling was different than anything she had ever known. She felt completely at peace with Christian, yet at the same time scared, but of what? That she might be...in love? Right now, all she knew was that whatever she felt was stronger than any physical love, and deeper than any emotional relationship shed ever had. Satine wasnt yet completely sure of what they had together, but she sensed it was worth holding on to. As Christians hand traced the outline of Satines arm for the hundredth time, he was still taken by every beautiful facet of her being. He looked at her eyes; they were like deep blue oceans. He was touched by her story and knew all too well that familiar longing to find the place where you truly belong, that person, who you belong with...for eternity. Satine softly yawned; she looked as if she may drift asleep in Christians arms. He would have loved nothing more, but theyd gotten off to quite a fast start, letting physical attraction prevail. Tonight, he thought it would be more appropriate if Satine slept in her own bed. Satine was almost asleep when Christian removed his hand from her shoulder. She immediately stirred, responding to the loss of contact. Satine darling, I should get you back home. Its getting late he said. Not really caring about the time, content to stay where she was Satine asked, What time is it? After twelve, here, come on...Ill help you up, he said lifting her from his lap and then stood. Satine sat and began to undo Christians warm cardigan. No, keep it on. Its quite cold out. Besides, you can give it back to me tomorrow. At least that way Ill have an excuse to see you again, he said with a grin. Now fully awake, Satine playfully responded, Oh, so you need an excuse to see me now, do you? Satine stood and gathered her jacket from where Christian had draped it over the wooden chair at his desk. All right, fine. Keep the cardigan so youll be warm. Ill come see you tomorrow just because I adore you and cant keep my eyes off of you, he laughed, better? Much, Satine answered with a smile. She walked over to Christian standing at the head of the bed and drew him into a deep embrace. Christian eagerly responded and whimpered when Satine pulled away and whispered across his lips, Goodnight and lightly kissed him once more. Satine moved to the doorway, Christian gathered his overcoat and was two steps behind her. What are you doing? she asked. Im going to walk you home, he said, stating the obvious, Its not exactly safe for a lady out there at this time of night Christian said, protectively. Satine laughed, Christian, Ive worked and lived here in Montmartre a lot longer than you have. I think Ill be all right, she said, sarcastically. She has a point, Christian thought. Perhaps, he conceded, but if its all the same Id feel a lot better if youd let me walk with you...to keep you company, he slyly added. This boy is definitely an English gentleman...and combine that with his bohemian ideals and handsome good looks, hes practically perfect Satine thought. Sure Satine said, smiling in response, Id love the company. Christian took Satines hand and led her down the stairs from his garret. As they moved out on to the cold streets he drew her closer, and they snuggled with their arms around each other. They happily chatted and joked as they walked. It was the perfect end to a perfect night. In The Garden, Satine stopped walking and on a serious note, turned to Christian. Thank you...for this evening, she began, stumbling for the right words, Ive had a wonderful time, I mean youre just, just... all of a sudden the words came flooding to her. |
| Satine wistfully looked into Christians eyes and began to sing; You're just too good to be true. Can't take my eyes off you. You'd be like Heaven to touch. I wanna hold you so much. At long last love has arrived And I thank God I'm alive. You're just too good to be true. Can't take my eyes off you. Christian smiled and continued; Pardon the way that I stare. There's nothing else to compare. The sight of you leaves me weak. There are no words left to speak, But if you feel like I feel, Please let me know that it's real. You're just too good to be true. Can't take my eyes off you. They playfully spun in circles and began to dance around under the moonlight in The Garden. Christian jumped on top of a nearby table and dramatically professed; I love you, baby! And if it's quite alright, I need you, baby, To warm a lonely night. I love you, baby. Trust in me when I say: He jumped off the table, landing in front of Satine and mock pleaded, Oh, pretty baby, Don't bring me down, I pray. Oh, pretty baby, now that I found you, stay And let me love you, baby. Let me love you... **stop player Christian twirled Satine and then wound her back into his arms. They came face to face, staring intensely at one another. Nervously, Satine broke the growing tension, We should get going. Everything was just happening so fast and she was almost envious of Christian, as being that open seemed second nature to him. Satine wasnt denying there was chemistry between them; all of a sudden she just needed slow things down, to know for sure if this was what she really wanted. After all, she would have to give up many parts of her life, risk her job and friendships at the Moulin Rougeit was a lot to consider before she would allow herself to be completely overcome by emotion. They finished walking to Satines room and quietly walked the short distance of the hallway; careful not to wake anyone that was sleeping. Christian walked Satine up to her door. She unlocked the door, but didnt open it. Satine turned back to thank Christian. Overcome with desire, he pressed her against the door and they locked in a heavy embrace. He took Satine by surprise, but it was by no means unwelcome. She matched his hunger and more; urgently running her hands over his chest and sweeping her tongue through his welcoming mouth. Christian pulled away, because he knew if he stayed a minute longer...hed never leave. He took a small step back. Sweet dreams, he softly said and walked back down the hall. Satine entered her room. She stood, breath taken and rest her head on the back of the door. Ive got it bad, she thought. **"Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" By Frankie Valli** |
