"In Between The Lines"

Satine slowly awoke from a peaceful dream, she rolled over and almost screamed; instead only a sharp gasp escaped. She was faced with two, large, sparkling grey eyes staring at her contently. Memories from last night flashed through her mind and she remembered this was the impoverished, however mmm, very charming, English writer Christian.
Satine was shocked by his presence, as she hadnt expected him to stay the night. Deep down she really expected that once hed got what he wanted he would have left her...just like everyone else.
She assessed the situation and quickly came to realize she was wearing nothing at all, and by the looks of it Christian was exactly the same, but it didnt seem to bother him.
...Those eyes she thought. Satine reached out and gently stroked his cheek just to make sure he was really there and this wasnt all a dream. His reaction of a small smile made her realize that he was still gazing at her intently and she hadnt uttered a single word to him. She didnt even know where to start.
          Youre still here, Satine said.
W-would like me to go? Christian responded nervously. It was the last thing he wanted to do, but perhaps she had changed her mind about him. He prayed that wasnt the case.
No! ...I mean, please dont go. Stay. Satine couldnt bare it if he left now. The fact that he stayed with her through the night endeared him to her even more. Despite everything she had told herself in the past, she was starting to think that this could be love.

Last night for them both was like fireworks. Each had their insecurities and fears, but they were completely unfounded. While Satine was anxious in this present situation, last night it had been Christian who was nervous. He worried that he wouldnt perform up to the standards of a woman whose job it was to please men nightly.
Surely she has seen the best, he thought. But with the help of Satine, all those thoughts had melted away, and he just did what came naturally.

Satine lay in thought of their escapade last night.

The boys a natural! she thought. Satine was astounded that in all her time as a Courtesan at the Moulin Rouge, she had never been with anyone as tender or caring or as amazing as Christian. All those other men were truly in it for themselves, and once theyd had their fun, spared no time in leaving. Yes, Christian was different from all the rest. She knew that now more than anything...now that he was here.
Last night it was so clear that he wanted her needs before his, her pleasure before his
Oh yes she thought, having flashes back to the night, ...that was definitely clear.
Neither of them knew what to say next. Christian lay completely on his side and Satine lay on her back with her head turned. They lay facing each other, still in silence. However it was anything but awkward, rather it was intimate.

Christian couldnt resist the curves of Satines lips any longer. He propped himself up onto his elbows and gave her a brief, but passionate kiss on the lips. Effectively serving two purposes, to convey his feelings for her and test her response in return.
He pulled away and rolled back onto his side. Satine then turned her body to face his.
Thank you she whispered and proceeded to return the favour.
This time the two entered the kiss with more force. Passion overtook all emotions. They became a mix of tongues and hands frantically searching for the other. Finally they drew apart, if for no other reason than the need for air.
Christian flashed a wide grin at Satine and moved a stray lock of hair from her face. He wondered if he looked every bit as happy as she did.
Thank you for what? Christian inquired, breathless after their encounter.
Satines eyes darted away nervously and then returned to look him in the eyes.
For being you; caring, handsome...goofy you she said tenderly, with a slight laugh in her voice as she remembered his serenade on top of the elephant.
Thank you for staying here until I woke up. You dont know what that means to me, she told him. She felt silly saying that, but it was the honest truth. It was seemingly such a small act, but it meant the world to her.

Christian sensed that even though in the past, her dealings had all been business; it had still hurt her to be used in that way. It seemed it was more of a defense than anything to switch off her emotions to the capacity of love. But he could tell this was different for her, for both of them. Once he had broken through her barriers, she was aching to love and be loved. It had been a hard wall to knock down but he knew she was worth the effort.
Youre worth the wait, he told her. I wouldnt miss waking up to you for the world. he said as he again moved closer and latched on to her bottom lip still left red and slightly swollen from their encounter just minutes ago.
Again the kiss deepened and it was as though nothing else in the world mattered, except that moment. Christian was tingling all over. Perhaps it could have been the affects from last nights absinthe, but he knew the cause was Satine.

Suddenly the two were jolted back to reality to hear a rapping on Satines door.
The two jumped apart with such vigor and surprise that Christian became tangled in one of the sheets, fell straight off the side of the bed, and hit the floor with a loud
*Thump*!

At that moment the door to Satines boudoir flung open...
