| Reims, France ~ April 20th, 1917 Satine set Sara down next to her on the ceramic, flower-patterned floor of the bathroom, admiring her daughters happy mind-set. Saras heart seemed to leap at the smallest details of life, and Satine envied her for that. The content toddler marched in circles beside her mother, still latched onto the red nightgown. Satine leaned over and turned on the knob in the bathtub to the right, closing her eyes for a brief moment. She took in the sound of the warm water pouring onto the once dry surface of the tub. The memories flowed through her mind once again How far we are from morningHow far are we Langres, France ~ July 24th, 1914 The lightning covered the sky, illuminating Christians tent for a brief second. In the few moments of silence before the thunder, a hot tear crawled down Christians cheek. He was sitting on the ground, alone, his knees pulled up to his chest. The thunder rolled. The dark brown color of the tent felt so closed off from his surroundings as he sat, thinking by his lonesome. Hed been there for nearly an hour, not being able to talk to the other men in his camp. He rocked himself back and forth, closing his eyes, envisioning one thing and one thing only. Satine. His love appeared before him, flashing different images of their life together. DiamondsDancingTears and Laughter. SongsMarriagea home in FranceSara. Pure and undying love. Christian opened his eyes and looked around him again, making a small attempt to erase the wonderful yet painful memories. His unpacked bag lay by his feet, daring him to open it and begin his long stay here on the battlefield. Finally, he leaned forward and started sifting through it half-heartedly. He reached to the bottom of the sack to lay his hand on the stationary he and Satine had bought together at the beginning of this month, which felt like an eternity ago. He lifted the paper and pens from the bag, and ran his thumb over the empty first page. The thunder crashed. Sitting on the ground in his tent, Christian raised the pen and touched its surface down onto the paper. With thoughts of Satine never ceasing to flow through him, he wrote the words deep in his heart to his one and only love. It was the only thing he could possibly think of doing at the moment, for the only person he wanted in his armswas Satine. He began to write. Dearest Satine, Only when my arms are holding you, Then I can close my eyes And know our love is oh, so true And softly like a warm and gentle rain Something comes over me Like nothing that I can explain Memories in the past, they seem to fade away Like a storm that leaves a new love in its place So let's go on and don't look back Cause every day's another dream come true For me and you Cause in the dark, you shined your light on me Straight from the heart, touching my desire, Fill my heart with fire, only you inspire Let's set our spirit free, sparkle in the light When I hold you tight, everything's alright Reims, France ~ August 1st, 1914 Satine read the beautiful, untouchable words before her, her eyes welling up with tears. Let's review the pages of my the life Read from a silent heart Of a man that's not ashamed To tell the world how I cherish you Cause a million years can never be enough My dear How I love you and I'm wishin' Every moment that you're here Cause I just want to hold you tight To close my eyes, and feel the warmth of you Come shining through I wrote that for you and only you, Satine. My heart is empty without you, but the thought of having you back in the future gives me the strength to move on. I love you, Satinemore than you could ever know. With unfaltering love, Your Christian Satine brought the paper to her lips, closing her eyes. She let the tears fall from them as she held the letter to her kiss for a long time. Finally, Satine looked up to see a bright shining star out the window. She stared at it for a while, thinking of Christian and what he was doing at that very moment. I love you, she whispered into the night, hoping Christian could somehow hear her. Satine paced around the room, reading the letter over and over again, not being able to put it down. She simply could not take it. She needed Christian, more than life itself. Slowly, a thought came to her. It was farfetched, but it was the only idea Satine had come up with that made the tiniest bit of sense. She would see her love again, and she would make sure of it.
