This is an expansion of the Primary Sources section in the back in the main IN rulebook. Below are a few sources that make me think of, or inspire/aid my games of, In Nomine in some way or another.

Books

The Crow, by James O'Barr
The original graphic novel spends a lot more time inside the head of the undead Eric Draven, with poems scattered throughout. Superior to the film, and that's saying something.

Spanky, by Christopher Fowler
Alternative take on how demons (or daemons) work; Spanky doesn't want our protagonists soul. Quite the opposite.

253, by Geoff Ryman
A London tube train with all the seats filled, including the driver, has 253 people on board. Every one of them has a story. Based on a web page by the author, this is one of the best "snapshots" of human behaviours I've ever seen, displaying the depths of callousness to the heights of virtue. It even has a plot, despite the unique format. More details can be found at ryman-novel.com.

King of the Grey , by Richard A. Knaak
The Grey, shadowy creatures who take their sustenance from human beliefs in this book, are good analogues of the Ethereal Spirits. The plot concerns itself with their habit of kidnapping a human to be their "king" and give them form, a plan opposed by the psychotic raven, who wants to create his own form, and to this end learns how to create a vessel. (Sort of. Go read it)

Movies and Television

Brimstone
Broody and atmospheric American TV series that was unfortunately cancelled after only six or seven episodes. The premise is that 113 damned souls have escaped Hell. The devil makes a deal with dead (and also damned) cop Ezekiel Stone; if Zeke can catch all the souls he gets a second chance at life. Very little is ever revealed about Hell, but it doesn't need to be. A very interesting look at how a Mummy might behave, and the Lightbringer gets all the best lines. A good fanpage is here.

Drop the Dead Donkey
This British comedy is not really In Nomine themed, but it gives a great insight into the nature of the Media, set as it is in the office of a TV News corporation. (The character of Damien is particularly suited for an amoral-but-not-entirely-evil Nybbasian.) A mixture of engaging characters and political humour, each episode was originally written and recorded only a day or so before being aired, so the political jokes were very, very up to date. And it hasn't lost anything by aging. Highly recommended, though some jokes may not make any sense to people who are ignorant of British government.

Dogma
A wickedly funny movie concerning the efforts of the Outcast angels to get back into heaven. Relativly little need be changed to convert this to In Nomine, and I ought to have my notes on various cast members up as NPCs soon.

The Crow
A wronged soul returns one year on to take revenge on the people that killed him and his girlfriend. You all know this one. Just don't watch any of the sequels or (heaven forbid) the TV series.

Fallen
An ancient Shedite shows how to destroy someone's life without ever possessing them, and we get to watch Americans try to pronounce "Azazel".

Run Lola Run
This subtitled German film has acquired something of a cult following since it's release a short few years ago. In Nomine version: an Ofan of the Wind (or Calabite of Theft?) desperately tries to save the life of her mortal boyfriend, and rolls a lot of Interventions. Plus we see the Fate and Destiny of different people along the way. Watch the widescreen version if possible. Here's the official homepage.

Dragonball Z
I have absolutely no idea why this strange fighting anime makes me think of In Nomine. But it does.

Music

Elgar Holst
Particularly for The Planets.

The Sisters of Mercy
Andrew Eldritch's band have some pretty damn soulful pieces, if you're running a more somber game. Particularly recommended are the albums Some Girls Wander By Mistake and Floodland. Or go have a look at their homepage.

Nine Inch Nails
Vitriol, passion and all that. Pick any album.

Marilyn Manson
Not everyone is going to agree, I know, but Manson has some very good stuff for the darker IN game. Earlier work like Portrait of an American Family seems quite touched by Kobal, while later albums like Antichrist Superstar and Holy Wood... form a good soundtrack to a low-brightness world. The Marilyn Manson homepage is here.

Inkubus Sukkubus
Why is it that Christian Rock sucks, but Pagan Rock can still be good? We may never know. In any case, this is a prime example of a band providing the Ethereals with Essence on a regular basis, and tend towards harmonies which will support any game involving the third faction. Recomended is the album Wytches (the only release of theirs I have, sadly.)

Rammstein
German Industrialists with a flair for dark humour. In Nomine players should check out their second album Sehnuscht, for the track Engel (Angel) if nothing else. Here's the homepage.

Natural Born Killers (soundtrack)
Possibly the greatest film soundtrack ever (in my opinion), this was put together by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails fame. All the tracks from the movie, in order, flowing into each other and spliced with dialogue. This covers L7, Mussorgsky, Snoop Dogg, Leonard Cohen, Elvis Costello, Lard, and so much more. And it works. A very emotional compilation.

John Williams
The guy who composed the score to pretty much any big film you've ever seen, like Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park and Star Wars. All of his collections are filled with epic pieces.

Others
There are hordes of other bands who have a few tracks particularly suitable for In Nomine. A few of these (and notable pieces) are: U2 (The Fly), Space (Avenging Angels), Queens of the Stone Age (The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret), System of a Down (Chop Suey! & War?), Tom Lehrer (a child of Kobal if there ever was one), Static-X (Black and White), Concrete Blonde (Bloodletting), Alien Sex Fiend (I Walk the Line)...
