| Patrick had just gotten a sweet internship and, for the first time ever, had enought money to get the guitar of his dreams. He had been leaning heavily towards the Parker Fly, intrigued by it's mix of acoustic and electric sounds. "Patsy" was (is) also a Phish fan and liked both Trey's tone and his one-of-a-kind, custom instruments. I had done a refinish for him on a Tele-knockoff a year or so earlier, plus, he had heard me several times playing my own Mo'Jo's at local gigs. Even though his idea for a guitar was very different from the Mo'Jo's he had seen and heard, he took a chance and asked me to build him a custom guitar. We got together and he told me all the features he wanted to incorporate into this new guitar (semi-hollow body, piezo bridge, etc.) plus the aesthetics he was aiming for (single cutaway, Tele/LP mix, 4X2 headstock, etc.) and I drew up a proposal. The first draft was pretty much what you see here, with a few minor electronics changes and the addition of the Steinberger tuners (at that time, they were the only way I could get a 4X2 setup without buying two sets of tuners!) You can hear this guitar (as well as the Thinline Custom from the Re-Creations page) on the "Wallace Hartley and the Titanics" album Jellyfish Patrol. |
