Tablet Installation Notes

Installation and Configuration

In order to use a tablet with any Alias|Wavefront software, you must first install the tablet drivers that allow the tablet to be used as an input device. We have included a set of wacom tablet drivers on the installation CD-ROM which can be installed using Software Manager or inst.

>
Note: IRIX versions 6.3 and higher supply their own set of tablet drivers and therefore it may not be necessary to install the supplied drivers.

To install the wacom tablet drivers, follow these steps:

1
Follow the instructions in the Installation Notes to mount the Alias|Wavefront CD-ROM on your workstation.
2
Log on to your system.
>
Note: To run the Install program, you must log onto your system as root or super user. Once logged on, use the port setup facility of the System Manager System Admin tools to ensure that the serial port being used for the tablet is available. Serial port one is often used by the system, so we do not recommend using it for the Wacom tablet.
1
Plug the Wacom tablet into serial port 2 (this is the default serial port; if your system is already configured for a Wacom tablet, then the current serial port will be used).
2
You must have root permission to install the driver:
% su
3
cd to the appropriate Wacom directory for your operating system:
eg. # cd /CDROM/Wacom/IRIX-6.2
>
Note: Note: Currently there are no IRIX 6.5 specific drivers from Wacom. If you are running IRIS 6.5 or later, use IRIX 6.4 wacom drivers.
4
Type Install. This script will launch Software Manager and point it to the correct dist directory.
5
Click Custom Installation and ensure that Wacom Control Panel and Wacom Device Driver are selected.
6
Click Start.
7
After the install finishes, exit Software Manager and reboot your machine.
8
Use the Wacom control panel to configure and test the driver: e.g. %/usr/sbin/wacom
9
Your wacom configuration file (/usr/lib/X11/input/config/wacom) should look like this:

x_init {
