Kaup Ananthayya Shenoy was the only son of Ramanath Shenoy took over all duties and responsibilities related to family and property in Kaup. He was the first Patel in Kaup officially appointed by then Government to over see all land revenue tax collections. He was a de facto village Sheriff to over see all other law and order issues. Unfortunately, his life span was shortened by a decease that had no cure at that time. He died in a very young age while his oldest son was in his teens. Thus, the responsibility of upbringing of all kids then rested upon the mother Radhabai. She was a brave woman and took her eldest son Ramanath and youngest son Krishnaraya and migrated to Madras which was then provincial capital laeving Shridhar and Sarvotham at Kaup. About hundred years ago the travel time to Madras from Kaup was about a week compared to 16 hours as of today. This includes travel by bullock cart, bus, boat to reach Calicut and then by train for three days. She endured all hardship in her life in educating her sons with a clear vision. Her eldest son Ramanath later became a very famous Lawyer in Madras High Court while her youngest son Krishnaray became the first Doctor in the Shenoy family with a postgraduate degree from London. Shridhar Shenoy became the village patel and continued his father's service to the village. No doubt, this pioneering spirit of her's runs in our family to this day resulting in several successful educated and respected personnel in the family as of today. Here is a picture of this great woman who deserves respect from all descendants of Anathayya Shenoy. |
