LOVELIFE [EP] (1996)

(reviewed by Robert Grazer)

I found this lying around the house and decided to jot down a quick review for it. I have no idea why I decided to do such a thing since if I were to give it a really bad rating, you would have no one to say otherwise and no trouble avoiding it since to acquire a copy you must go pretty far out of your way. Then there is also the downside that if I were to award this a perfect score no one would care nor even look around for a copy of this relatively hard to find work. The point is that my advice here will be ignored either way. And on top of that this is neither of those extremes, making it one of the reviews on this site that will ultimately be ignored. So why do it? Probably because Lovelife is in my collection and it's a short EP so jotting down a quick review will not take long. Then there is a second reason, and I'll get to that in a sec.

There are six little love songs on here with pretty dumb names that range from "Boy Wonder" to "Love Scene Seventeen." For the most part the music is pretty enjoyable. Above average, still but nothing truly great. It really sounds like a bunch of teens who got together and penned a few songs, sent them in to a dying record company and through some miracle got them released. In fact this is most likely the story behind Lovelife. Yet still I must give this a mild recommendation. One song, "Blue," is just absolutely awesome. It has sort of the same bass driven feel some early U2 had, and I personally think it alone is worth the price of Lovelife. Get this to keep around the house and listen to "Blue" every few days. Athough you should also be hearing "Wake Up Christine" fairly often as well.

OVERALL RATING: 7
