Milperra is a suburb of Bankstown City, the residential precinct of which is unique within the local government area in that it is geographically separated from its neighbouring suburbs by almost totally open space with the Georges River to the west, Kelso Park to the south, the University of Western Sydney to the east and the Bankstown Golf Club to the north and with the Bankstown airport further north.
The effect of the geographical separation is that the industrial area to the east of the university and that to the east of Ashford Ave. is separated from the residences by a natural buffer zone resulting in the development amongst the residents of a strong local identity with the area of Milperra which consists mainly of growing family units.
The attraction to the area, for the majority of residents, has been the standard of local development which could best be described as almost totally of single dwellings on urban building blocks where predominately the occupiers either own or are buying the properties.
The area has a primary school, adjoins the Milperra Campus of the University of Western Sydney, a post office and two small shopping centres. Apart from the outdoor recreational facilities, other services, such as public transport, are minimal.
