Ever since they found out they were both bedwetters, Jennifer and Betsy had become the best of friends. It had all started out with being invited to Amy's slumber party. Neither girl wanted to go to the party. When they figured out why, they became inseparable. Now, one would either find Betsy at Jennifer's house, or Jennifer at Betsy's house. The Clementes were beginning to think they had triplets instead of twins, and the Tylers were beginning to think that they had twins.

It was a Saturday in April, several weeks after Amy's party. It was also several months after moving into the new house. Jennifer had Betsy over for about the millionth time since they had joined at the hip. The girls were up in Robin and Jennifer's room.

"But that's not fair, Jennifer!" Robin shouted.

"I don't care if you don't think it's fair, Robin, but I have a friend over and we want to play by ourselves," Jennifer said.

"It's okay, she can play," Betsy said.

"No, she can't. I don't want her to. When she has her friends over, she never wants me to play, so now it's her turn to sit out," Jennifer reasoned.

Robin said, "Yeah, but I'm friends with Betsy, too. You're not friends with my friends."

Jennifer said, "I don't care! You're not playing with us. Now leave us alone!"

"Fine, but I'm telling!" Robin shouted.

Robin went downstairs. She went into the living room where her parents were sitting. Her mom, Lisa was seven months pregnant with her first child, and the doctor told her to rest as often as she could. Her father, Charlie, was sitting in his chair, reading the newspaper. Robin heaved herself down in front of her parents, pouting.

"Hi, honey, what's the matter?" Charlie asked.

"Jennifer won't let me play with her and Betsy. It's not fair!" Robin whined.

Charlie looked at Lisa. "But Robin, didn't you tell Jennifer the other day that she couldn't play with you and Danielle?"

"Yeah, but that was different," Robin said.

"How was it different?" Lisa asked.

"Because Jennifer's not friends with Danielle, but I'm friends with Betsy. At least we're friends at school!" Robin protested.

"Well, I think it's the same thing. Come on, there must be something else you can do," Charlie said.

"There isn't, Daddy, I'm bored," Robin cried.

"Why don't you go color a picture? You can watch tv while you color," Lisa said.

"All right, fine," Robin said as she walked out of the room, "but I'm not gonna have any fun."

Both Charlie and Lisa chuckled as soon as Robin was out of earshot.

Meanwhile upstairs, Betsy and Jennifer were in the playroom.

"Hey, Jennifer, what's in those doors? You never showed me," Betsy said.

"Oh, those are just storage closets. We're not allowed to go in them," Jennifer said.

"Come on, what's in them? I want to see," Betsy said.

Jennifer said, "No, I'm not allowed. Last time I went in, I got punished. Robin and I found this really cool treasure chest. It was filled with all these beautiful clothes, but they weren't really ours and Robin and I got into a lot of trouble."

"Well, let's just see. Maybe there's something new in there that's cool. Come on, let's go," Betsy said, opening one of the closet doors, dragging Jennifer in with her.

"See, I told you it would be cool. Look at all this neat stuff!" Betsy said.

Jennifer was feeling uneasy, with good reason. She should have stuck to her first instinct, because wouldn't you know it, not five minutes later, Charlie came up to check on the girls.

"WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING IN HERE? COME OUT HERE RIGHT NOW!" Charlie's deep voice boomed. The girls were scared.

"I'm sorry, Daddy, I told her," Jennifer said crying.

"Let's go, you're in a lot of trouble," Charlie said.

The girls followed Charlie into Robin and Jennifer's bedroom. He sat them on the edge of the bed. He pulled Robin's desk chair into the middle of the room and sat facing the girls.

"Okay, tell me what happened," Charlie said, trying to stay calm.

Jennifer spoke first. "Betsy asked me what was behind the doors and I told her they were closets but we weren't allowed in and she wanted to see anyway so she went in and she pulled me in too and I told her Robin and I got in trouble but. . ."

Charlie cut her off. He had heard enough of her run-on statement.

"So, even though you knew not to go in, you did it anyway, Jennifer?" Charlie asked sternly.

Jennifer cried, "Yes, sir."

Betsy spoke up finally, "It was my fault, Mr. Clemente, I made Jennifer show me what was inside the closets. I'm sorry, I guess I was just curious."

Charlie said, "Well, you know what happened to the cat, don't you?" When Betsy shook her head no, Charlie continued, "It's an expression: Curiosity killed the cat. That means, you don't do something that you know is wrong, even if you're curious about it, because it might get you into trouble. So, Jennifer told you that she wasn't allowed in there, but you convinced her to do it anyway, Betsy?"

Betsy started to cry, "Yes, sir, I'm sorry!"

"I'm sorry, too. I'm afraid you'll both have to be punished," Charlie said sadly.

"Daddy, you can't punish Betsy, she's not your daughter!" Jennifer said.

"When Betsy is in my house, she must follow my rules. Come here, Betsy!" Charlie said.

Betsy went and stood in front of Charlie. He bent her over his leg and applied ten swift smacks to her bottom. Then he pulled her up. She was crying. He told her to lay on Robin's bed.

Then he motioned to Jennifer to come over to him.

"You've been punished for this before, little girl, what do you have to say for yourself?" Charlie asked sternly.

"I-I-I'm sorry, Daddy!" Jennifer sobbed.

"Not as sorry as you're going to be. Since you've already been spanked for the same thing, you're going to get an even harder spanking. Maybe next time, you won't go in those closets," Charlie said.

Jennifer answered, "There won't be a next time. I promise, Daddy. I learned my lesson. Ouch!"

Charlie had begun spanking Jennifer. While she was talking, Charlie had pulled her pants and panties down and laid her over his lap. Spank after spank landed on Jennifer's bottom. By the time he was through, Jennifer was hysterical. Then Charlie stood her up and walked her over to her bed. She had stepped out of her pants. He laid her on the bed and gently put her pantsies on her.

Jennifer cried into her pillow. "You lay here and cry it out. You'll probably fall asleep. I'll see you in a little while. I love you," Charlie said as he kissed Jennifer on the cheek. Then he walked back over to where Betsy lay crying.

"Do you want to take a nap, too?" he asked Betsy. She nodded. So Charlie pulled off her pants and panties and laid pantsies under her, too. It helped that they were about the same size.

Charlie went back downstairs. Lisa asked, "Is everything okay, honey?"

Robin came into the room. Charlie looked at his daughter, "Well, Robin, it's a good thing you didn't play with Jennifer and Betsy after all, because they just both got spankings."

"You spanked Betsy, too?" Robin asked.

"Yes, I did," Charlie answered.

"Why, honey? What'd they do?" Lisa asked.

Charlie said, "I caught them in the big hall closets. Jennifer had told Betsy that she wasn't allowed in there, but Betsy convinced Jennifer to go in, anyway, so now they were both punished."

Lisa nodded her head, "I agree, but maybe Susan and Bill won't."

"Hmmm, well, let me call them right now and tell them. I'm sure once they hear my explanation, they'll agree, also," Charlie said as he reached for the phone.

Susan Tyler answered on the second ring. After Charlie filled her in, she was shocked at what her daughter had done.

"Oh, don't worry, Charlie. I agree with you totally. I'm just sorry you didn't bare her bottom because that's actually what she needs," Susan said.

Charlie said, "I think what we need to do is make up some ground rules for the girls. I mean, I see Betsy now as much as I see my own girls, and I'm sure you can say the same thing about Jennifer. They should know that they need to follow the rules of whatever grown-up is in charge of them at the time."

"You're definitely right. Bill and I agree with you wholeheartedly. I expect you to punish Betsy if she misbehaves at your house," Susan said.

"And I hope you would discipline Jennifer if she needed it at your house," Charlie added.

"Well, when I come to get Betsy later, I'll bring Bill with me, and the six of us can sit down and discuss this," Susan said.

"I have a better idea. Why don't you and Bill join Lisa and the girls and I for dinner. It's been so nice lately; I've been wanting to break out the grill," Charlie suggested.

"Oh, we'd love to. Thank you. We'll see you later!" Susan and Charlie discussed the time and what the Tylers should bring before hanging up.

After putting down the phone, Charlie noticed Lisa was making a face.

"What? What's the matter?" Charlie asked concerned.

"Nothing, I just wish you would have checked with me before you added two more people to our dinner," Lisa said jokingly, "but I know it doesn't matter, because I'm not cooking, and you'll go out to do the food shopping right now."

"Oh, of course," Charlie said. "C'mon, Robin, you can come with me to the store to get some groceries for dinner."

"Oh, honey, you're in luck, Robin's a great helper when it comes to food shopping," Lisa said with a smile.

Robin and Charlie walked into Foodtown and Charlie said hello to a million people. Robin only knew a few of the people that were working there.

The lady at the courtesy desk said, "Hi, Robin."

"Hey, how'd you know my name?" Robin asked.

Charlie said, "Robin, you remember Trisha? She was here when you came to work with me a few months ago."

"Oh, yeah, I remember now, Hi!" Robin said. "But how did you know it was me and not my sister?" Robin asked as her father left to get a shopping cart.

Trisha was confused. "What do you mean? I just remember meeting you when you were here with your father."

"But I have a twin sister, Jennifer," Robin said.

"Oh, you do? I didn't know that," Trish said.

"Yeah, we look exactly alike," Robin said.

As Charlie came back with the cart, Trish said, "So, there's two of them?"

Charlie laughed and said, "Yeah, sometimes it feels like more than two. Come on, Robin, I want this to be short shopping trip. If I stay here too long, people will think I'm working and find stuff for me to do. See ya later, Trish."

Charlie was amazed at how much of a help Robin was, just like Lisa said. He told her what to get and she went and found it and put it in the cart. When they were in the produce aisle, Robin asked, "Daddy, can we get grapes?"

"Okay, put them in the bag, and we'll get them. But hurry up, we don't have too much more to get, and I want to get out of here," Charlie answered.

"Can we get bananas, too?" Robin asked.

"Okay, Robin, but that's it, let's just stick to the list, c'mon," her father said a little impatiently.

In the next aisle, Robin asked her father if she could get some new fruit snacks that just came out.

"No, Robin, I told you, we're sticking to the list," Charlie said. He was getting annoyed.

"Please, Daddy, they're supposed to be really good. I wanted to try them," Robin whined.

Charlie grabbed the fruit snacks from Robin's hand and placed them back on the shelf. "I said, no, Robin, now let's go!" As he said that, he grabbed Robin's wrist and pulled her out of the aisle.

She tried the same thing in the next two aisles.

"Robin, I told you to knock it off! We're only getting what's on the list, now stop it right now! If you pull one more thing like this, you will be very sorry! We're almost done, and then we're going home!" Charlie warned. He was getting very angry.

But Robin didn't listen. In the next aisle, she tried one more thing. It wasn't even candy or chips or anything. Her father would hear none of it.

"But, Daddy, it's this new spaghetti. It's shaped like . . ." Charlie cut her off. He lifted her up, smacked her once on the rear and dropped her into the cart.

"Daddy, NO! I'm not a baby!" Robin shouted.

"Well, you're acting like a little girl. Now you'll be treated like one," Charlie said.

Robin started to cry. She didn't know what possessed her to act out like that. Usually, she was very well behaved in the supermarket with her mother, and she really was a big help. Maybe because her mother didn't let her get anything, and since her father worked here, she was going to try to get stuff that she wanted. But now her father had put her into the shopping cart like a little baby.

She was embarrassed, because people in the store were looking at her. Here she was, nine years old, and sitting in the shopping cart, like a baby. Well, not like a baby, because a baby would be on the top part with the space to put your legs, and she was definitely too big for that!

Robin continued to cry. "Please, Daddy, let me out, I'll be good, please!"

"Robin, that's enough! We're leaving in two minutes! I'll be right back, I have to go into the office for one minute. Behave yourself!" her father said and disappeared into the bookkeeper's office.

Robin sat there crying. She was completely humiliated. She just hoped she didn't run into anyone she knew. Okay, good, here came her father, she could get out.

But Charlie said, "No, not 'til we're out of the store. You will just stay right where you are, young lady. And I'm afraid, you will be punished when we get home. I can't believe the way you acted in the store. Especially after your mother told me what a good helper you are!"

On the way home, Robin sobbed quietly. She knew she was in trouble with her father and would get a spanking, but she also knew he would tell her mother what she had done. And that was worse! Robin knew that her mother expected her to be a good little helper. And she had been, especially since Lisa had become pregnant. Robin tried to help out as much as she could.

When they pulled up in the driveway, Charlie said, "Okay, let's go. You can bring one bag into the kitchen, but then I want you to wait for me in my bedroom."

Robin didn't move.

"Robin, let's go!" her father's voice boomed. But Robin still did not move. Charlie just shook his head and carried some groceries into the house.

Lisa said, "Hi, honey! Where's Robin? Was she a big help? She can be such an angel sometimes."

"Well, our little angel misbehaved on the shopping trip, and now she won't get out of the car!" Charlie said.

"What? Robin misbehaved? I can't believe it. Well, I'll get her out of the car," Lisa said as she went outside.

She waddled down the driveway. It was getting hard to walk now, this far into her pregnancy. She tried Robin's door handle, but it was locked.

"Robin, open this door, right now," Lisa warned.

Robin didn't budge. "I said, now!" Lisa shouted.

Robin opened the lock. Lisa pulled open the door and leaned in and said, "Robin, I cannot believe you misbehaved for Daddy in the store! Now let's go, you're going to be punished!"

"No!" Robin shouted. She crossed her arms over her chest and refused to get out of the car.

"I am seven and a half months pregnant, I don't want to do this, but if I have to physically carry you from here into the house, you will be very sorry. For when you get to our bedroom, there will be a hairbrush waiting with your name on it. Do you get my picture?" Lisa was now screaming. Robin, too scared not to go, got up quickly and ran into the house. Lisa, satisfied, slapped her hands, slammed the car door and went back into the house.

She walked into the kitchen, where Charlie was putting the groceries away. "Robin is now in our bedroom, waiting for you," Lisa said.

"I won't ask you how you did that," Charlie laughed.

"You don't want to know," Lisa laughed, too.

"Well, I'm not ready to deal with her, yet, I'm too angry. Where are our other children, now?" Charlie asked.

"Children? Oh, you mean, Betsy, too. Well, Betsy is in the den, watching tv and coloring. She's making name place cards for dinner tonight. Jennifer's still sleeping. I was just about to go wake her," Lisa added.

"I'll go, I need a distraction," Charlie said.

Jennifer woke up as her father knocked on the bedroom door.

"Come in," Jenn said sleepily. v"Wow! That was some nap you took, sweetheart. Time to get up now. Betsy's parents are coming for dinner in little while, and we all have to talk," Charlie said.

As they talked, Charlie changed Jennifer out of her wet pantsies. Jennifer was surprised that Mr. and Mrs. Tyler were coming for dinner, but she was pleased. It meant that Betsy would be staying a little longer.

Jennifer went downstairs with her father. While she went to find Betsy, Charlie went to deal with Robin. He walked into his bedroom, and saw Robin sitting on the big bed. She had her arms crossed over her chest and she was pouting.

Charlie sat in the big red chair and motioned for Robin to join him. She sat carefully on his lap. Charlie turned her around so that she was facing him.

"Well, young lady, what do you have to say for yourself?" Charlie asked Robin.

"I don't know, Daddy, why I acted like that, I'm sorry!" Robin said quietly.

"Oh, but you must have some idea. Mommy told me what a good little helper you usually are. But that's not what you showed me!" Charlie said.

"It's hard, sometimes, to do what's right. Sometimes I get tired of doing the right thing, of being the good girl," Robin said.

"What do you mean, Robin?" her father asked.

"I've been trying to help Mommy, since she's been pregnant, but then I help too much, and I don't get to have any fun. I guess since I was with you, I tried, but I went too far. I'm sorry, Daddy!" Robin started to cry.

Charlie pulled Robin close and hugged her. "Well, honey, we can't expect you to be the good helper all the time. You're just a little girl."

"Are you still mad at me?" Robin asked.

"No, I'm not mad at you. I am disappointed in the way you acted in the supermarket, though, and you will still be punished," Charlie said gently. "Do you understand why, Robin?"

"Yes, sir, I carried on like a little girl even after you told me not to. I won't do it again," Robin said matter-of-factly.

"I know you won't. Okay, let's go, we want to get this over with, so we can start getting ready for our company," Charlie said as he lifted Robin up.

He put her on the floor in front of him, and in one swift motion, pulled down her pants and panties, and pulled her over his lap. He started to spank her bottom. First one cheek, then the other, over and over, until it turned pink, then red. Robin was hysterically crying by the time Charlie stopped spanking.

Her father set her on her feet again, and slowly lifted her panties and pants. It hurt going over her sore bottom. Then Charlie took out his handkerchief and wiped Robin's tears from her face.

"There, there, it's okay, it's all over now. C'mere," Charlie said as he gathered Robin into his lap. He positioned her so that her head rested on his shoulder, and her bottom was sticking out. He knew she would not want to sit just yet. Robin cried into her father's shoulder until the tears would come no more.
