LEGATO NETWORKER 4.2
Setting up Legato to work with OnBar
- Install the product using the pkgadd command. You will need to install
the 'DBMI Libraries' product as well. DBMI is the name Legato has
given to the XBSA communication package that Onbar needs to
communicate with Legato. When installing the product make sure
you follow the installation guide that came with legato. If
follow those steps then you should be able to get passed the
next few steps.
- Test Legato by backing up files from the UNIX file system. Make sure
they can do that before attempting Informix backups. This is very important. If they cannot
perform a backup of their UNIX file system then they will not
be able to perform Onbar Backups. They will have to contact the
Legato Technical Support for help at that point.
- Make sure the dbmi_config script has been run. You can verify that is has
been done by startting Letago (nwadmin) and click on the 'Label'
button. The pools 'DBMIData' and 'DBMILogs' should be there.
Running Onbar with Legato
- Set Legato Enviornment variables for Onbar backup. Legato has some
enviornment variables which identify where its Onbar backup are
to be stored. If these are not set then Legato will attempt to
use default values for them.
- NSR_LOG_VOLUME_POOL- The data pool name which the logical
logs will be backed up to.
- NSR_DATA_VOLUME_POOL- The data pool name which the dbspace
backups will be sent to.
- NSR_CLIENT- The machine name where the legato client
software resides.
- NSR_SERVER- The machine name where the legato server
software resides. Generally the machine that has the media
devices on it.
- Attempt an onbar backup (onbar -b -w). Check the legato GUI to see if you need to load/change any tape.
- Check the OnBar Activity Log to determine the success. If there
are still problems, see also Frequently Asked
Questions or Debugging OnBar.
If there are still more questions realated to legato, then the
Legato Website is a good place
to look for answers.
