FANS RALLY AS MARCONI FACES NSL CHOP 13/10/02
Concerned Marconi supporters have hastily organized a committee to help save the club.

Club Marconi, the licensed association that bankrolls the Stallions, are considering pulling the football team out of the NSL at the end of the season with the organisation struggling under crippling debts.

The new supporters committee, called 'Save our Stallions' (SOS), is hoping to inform as many Marconi fans as possible of the threat to their team's future.

A spokesman for SOS, former Marconi publicist and match day programme editor, Fred Legget, said that the first priority of the committee was to ensure that as many Stallions' fans as possible were made aware of the threat.

Legget said: "The first I knew about this was when I opened the club's annual report which came in the post last Thursday.

"The motion will be debated at the AGM on Sunday 20th October, but the difficulty we have in letting everybody know about it, is that the Stallions are not scheduled to play at Marconi Stadium until after this date.

"Local Fairfield businessman and former Marconi youth coach, Peter Ashby, has accepted the role as interim President of SOS, and has gathered together a team who are speaking with as many supporters as they can, as quickly as they can, to ask them that if they are members of the club, to attend the AGM and vote against this resolution.

"Although the Board are under no legal obligation to implement the resolution even if it is passed, it is essential that the Stallions' supporters take this opportunity to send the clear, unmistakable message to the Marconi Board that they want Marconi's rich NSL soccer tradition to continue."

Concerned supporters should call:
