
These landmarks were named for the 19th-century explorer to this area, John Fremont, though it's unclear whether he actually saw these particular buttes. I don't have very good photos of this place - I was there in February 1993, in the middle of an unbelievably fierce, cold wind.

The Fremont Buttes consist of two prominences, locally known as "The Butte" and "The Chair". You can see "The Chair" in the background of this photo. Part of the rimrock of "The Butte" is visible in the foreground. In the first photo, I am standing on top of "The Butte", hoping the wind doesn't blow me right off...
