Deitz
By Sleuth
Deitz Deitz you are a man
If we can't have Ray or Danny
We'll take what we can
Poor Deitz always coming in last.
He lost at the track today and he loses with Carmen everyday.
He ambled into the living room only to find Ben and Carmen on the desk.
It was humiliating. He backed out of the room with tears in his eyes.
How long had he hungered to be in Ben's position.
How long had he put up with her barking orders and slapping him.
How long must he endure this humiliation.
He sighed and decided that it would probably be forever.
He loved her from the first day that she had ordered a hit.
It was so thrilling the way she spoke to him.
It left him weak with desire.
She didn't even know how much he admired her strength.
Never would know, because he didn't exist to her.
Just someone to drive the car and take care of the dirty work.
He had protected her ever since her husband had died.
Her son called him names most of the time and that little snip of a daughter didn't even speak to him.
Well, things were about to change.
Deitz decided to develop a backbone and find another family that would appreciate him.. some family far superior to the Santos clan.. who needed them?..
"Not me" thought Deitz.
He put on his best suit and tie. He would show them a thing or two. He went to a hair stylist and asked for a more sophisticated hair cut. The stylist, Gregory, assured him that he would make him look like a king. Deitz was smiling when he left.. he admired himself in the store windows. He looked at his reflection a long time. He did look like a new person.
He entered the Spaulding building and went to the personnel office . He was greeted by Mr. Stephenson. Mr. Stephenson was a round little man with sparkling blue eyes.
He shook Deitz's hand and offered him a seat.
"Well, Mr. Deitz is it? What exactly do you do?" Mr. Stephenson asked.
"I am or was in the security business." Deitz answered proudly
"I see, security.. alarms, that sort of thing?" Mr. Stephenson smiled
" Not exactly no.. more like well guarding people .. that sort of thing" Deitz sat up straighter in the chair.
Mr. Stephenson cleared his throat and said" Ahem .. well .. that is very interesting.. who exactly did you guard?"
"Uh... well.. uh people .. important people.. I can't really tell you their names.. privacy and all that you know" Deitz squirmed a bit in the chair.
"I see.. so this was a private security business and you owned the business did you?"
Now Deitz was getting very uncomfortable and raised half way up from the chair as though he was ready to leave.
"I think this might have been a bad idea.. I can't talk about these people.." Deitz stood and started to walk away.
Mr. Stephenson called him back.
"Mr. Deitz.. please don't leave.. I may have something for you." he gestured toward the chair and Deitz returned and sat down.
"Now, Mr. Deitz.. I can see that you are a loyal man. We need loyal men here at Spaulding. I want you to know that I am going to recommend you for the job of security chief. Of course it would have to be approved by Mr. Spaulding. I am sure ,though, that he will go along with my recommendation." Mr. Stephenson smiled.
Deitz could hardly believe his ears.. all this time he had spent with Carmen, never once had words thrilled him so much. He would escape them.. he could be his own man. Maybe now there would be some appreciation.
"I would really like that Mr. Stephenson. Thank you very much." Deitz could hardly contain his happiness.
.He got the job!!
His first day he was shown his office. It was on the 20th floor of the Spaulding building and almost as large as Carmen's living room. His desk at the far end of the room gave him a wonderful view through the large window. He could see all of Springfield from these windows.
He felt like a king today.
His secretary Tricia Morgenstien was a tall, leggy blond. She couldn't have been more than twenty-two and he liked her right away. What a smart girl. She could take dictation and type and she had a cute accent." What was it?" he wondered
"Hello, Mr. Deitz, I am Tricia and I will help you get settled into your new office. Is everything satisfactory??" she asked in a soft breathy voice.
"Fine." he said staring at her in wonder.
"Vera never looked like this" he thought to himself as he smiled at Tricia.
His first day on the job was a great success. He met all his men and they were excellent guards and they seemed to like him right away.
He was satisfied that he had great working companions and a beautiful secretary. Life was good.
At Casa Santos Carmen was searching for Deitz.
"Deitz.. Deitz.. where has that lazy man gotten to.. I am going to fire him if I find him.. that miserable excuse for a man." Carmen through a book across the room and hit Ben as he entered the door.
"Whoa... wait a minute.. what did I do?" Ben asked
"Nothing .. it is that miserable Deitz.. gone missing again.. and just where are the newlyweds.. still in their bedroom I suppose.. do they ever come up for air...?" Carmen said in an exasperated voice.
"Uh .. Carmen.. Deitz quit, remember?" Ben said with a puzzled expression.
" Quit? Nobody quits in this business.. what are you talking about?" Carmen snarled
" Well, he did.. last week.. don't you remember?" Ben said as he poured himself some coffee.
Carmen sat down at her desk. She picked up the phone and started to call one of her thugs. Ben stopped her and remarked that it was best to let this go and leave Deitz to his new life.
She said "Never, he knows too much."
Dietz eyed his secretary as she crossed the room to get a file for him. She was absolutely breathtaking. He thought this must be heaven." Maybe I've died and didn't know it." he smiled at this thought.
She came to his desk and as she handed him the file her hand brushed against his. He took in a sharp breath. He continued to stare at her in wonderment. This was "his" secretary! He sighed with happiness. All this was his and the benefits were wonderful. No more running errands for Carmen. No more picking up her laundry and washing her car.. he was an important man now.. yes .. very important.
That following week Mr. Stephenson came to his office with a memorandum. He handed it to him and said that there had been some corporate changes.. "Not too worry , they will not effect you" Mr. Stephenson smiled broadly and left.
