Resist - A Continuation

Epilogue

By LNJ

"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten! You're doing good Michelle. Again, one, two..."

I'm here having my baby. And Danny's here, too. We never saw or heard from Colin again. I know he's watching me still. Danny never bought any of his mother's story, but the Santos family did go legit. Sancorp is thriving under Danny's leadership.

Pilar is still recovering at the psychiatric hospital. She has a long way to go, but I believe she will get over her obsession with me and Nino.

Carmen spends all her time with Andrew and she and I have gotten to know one another better.

Kathleen and Ray are getting married in April. He gave up the priesthood, but continues to counsel at the church when needed.

I think Danny still feels alot of guilt for what's happened to me. I try to convince him that we all need to let go of the past and concentrate on the future. And she's almost here.

"...Three, four, five...I see the head, here she comes...congratulations...it's a girl!"

Danny's crying as the nurse puts our baby on me. Then, she takes her to the warming table. Danny is right there watching them check her over. She's crying and it's so beautiful to hear.

Danny gives me a kiss and leaves the birthing room to accompany the nurse to the nursery with our daughter. Another nurse helps me get cleaned up and I'm moved to my suite.

Soon, Danny is back with our daughter. Maureen Carmen Santos.

"Did you find Andrew?"

"Sure did. He's on his way. My mother said he had to take care of something special."

I can hear my son coming down the hall. He can pronounce all his words now.

"Grandma, I'm a big brother."

"I know. Here we are."

Andrew comes to the bed with a small stuffed animal. It's a lion.

He says to his sister, "This is for you Maureen. You don't have to be scared of the lions because I'm going to take real good care of you."

----------------------------------

“Michelle had the baby today. She named her Maureen Carmen Santos.”

“Are they okay? How’s Andrew?”

“Everybody is fine. Are you sure you don’t want Carmen Santos taken care of?”

“No. Michelle has been through too much. She has grown fond of Carmen. And Danny is not the tortured, bitter person he was. Everybody’s happy. Leave things as they are.”

“What if these lies surface one day? What will we do?”

“They can’t surface. Remember? My Aunt Carmen forced me to hide the only people who could refute them.”

“I can’t believe Carmen told such an elaborate story. Danny doesn’t believe half the stuff she said about Colin. And you and I both know he shouldn’t.”

“Carmen is one smart lady. She used the situation to get her family on the right side of the law without starting a war with the other families or going to the FBI. I’m just glad no one else had to die.”

“Not smart enough, though. Ray, she never figured out that you and I are the FBI. And she does think Colin and Claire are dead.”

“I know Kathleen. We were so close to bringing down the Santos and Riveras. The whole crime syndicate in Springfield would have collapsed with the loss of those two families. Well, we’re back at square one.”

“No, Ray, two new agents are back at square one. Our job is to protect Danny and Michelle. I love them like family.”

“So do I. Well, Colin and Claire are in the witness protection program and I’m confident Danny isn’t too interested in finding them. The only thing that would seal the happy ending is Pilar getting well.”

“Right. Well let’s go to the hospital. I never thought that when I started this assignment 5 years ago that I would wind up in love with my colleague and the God-Mother of my subject’s son.”

“And I just knew Danny Santos was a heartless monster like that Nino Rivera. I’m glad Danny saved Michelle from Nino and Michelle saved Danny from himself.”

“Me too.”
