Resist - A Continuation
Part 43
It's been one week since that fiasco with Pilar and Colin. I haven't seen or heard from either one. And that scares the hell out of me.
Danny has been great with me and Andrew, but he won't discuss his sister or Colin. Security has been stepped up and I have a permanent bodyguard.
I sense that Carmen and Danny are both keeping something from me that affects my situation. Danny doesn't want anyone else to know about the pregnancy. And he continually tells me not to worry about anything.
I can't help but worry.
This is just as stressful as anything else. Not knowing. Feeling I'm in danger. Actually, I probably am in danger. And what about our son. I'm mored scared for him than anything.
Danny does his best, though to keep things as normal as possible...minus the bodyguards.
It hasn't been much of a romantic week. Danny insists Andrew sleep with us in my room. I'm moving into Danny's room today. Kathleen will sleep in with Andrew from now on. Just until things calm down.
I'm putting my toiletries in the bathroom when I hear the bedroom door open and close. I go to the bedroom and it's Danny.
"So, is everything cool?"
"Yeah, baby. How are you?"
"Oh, okay. I was just putting some stuff in the bathroom. So what are we going to do this fine Saturday?"
"Well, I thought we could go to the movies and dinner."
"Really?"
"Sure. Would you rather do something else?" He sits down on the bed and pulls me to sit on his lap.
I wrap my arms around his neck. "Actually, I was hoping we could have a romantic evening in our bedroom. We need to christen this bed."
"Hmmm. It has been a week since we've made love. I guess I could have Olga whip something up."
"And can we rent a movie?"
"Yep."
Just then the telephone rings and I get up so Danny can go answer it.
"Santos. Yeah...No...Really?...Alright...One hour." He hangs up. "Baby, I've got to run out. But I'll be back in a few hours. Okay?"
I give him a hug. "Danny, I'm worried about you."
"I know and Pilar and Colin, too. Remember, no stress."
"But what if..."
He silences me with a long, passionate kiss. "None of that. Everything will work out fine. I'll be back. If you need something heavy lifted, ask Jimmy."
I watch him leave and shut the door, but then he opens it back up and peaks his head in saying, "I love you."
And then he's gone.
“Hey, Ray… It’s me…Yeah…She called…I’m on my way to see her now…no…I don’t want her to know…I am…Thanks.”
Danny is heading toward his destination. He knows this has to be resolved once and for all. Protect his family. That’s the bottom line.
Carmen made sure things with Pilar and Colin were taken care of discreetly. Too much pain had been caused. She also felt the need to do things a little differently. Andrew was her pride and joy and with another grand-baby on the way…well, things had to change.
Only Ray, Carmen, Kathleen, Rick and Abby knew Michelle was pregnant, for now. Danny wanted to make sure whatever Michelle went through the first time would not repeat itself. He didn’t want to know the details. The image of Michelle suffering was something Danny wanted to keep out of his mind. He had put her through enough all by himself and those memories would haunt him forever.
But now they would create new, wonderful memories. And maybe one day, Michelle could forgive him for the hell he and Nino put her through.
Nino. It’s ironic, but he has to thank Nino for bringing Michelle into his life. Danny may have fought it, but he knows they were meant to be. And maybe their ordeal with Nino was just a stepping stone to a great, long-lasting relationship for he and Michelle.
Someone once told Danny that a little pain makes one appreciate the good times. Well, considering what he and Michelle have been through, Danny’s grateful that he finally opened his heart. Let the good times begin.
He approaches the large, old Victorian building. There’s a guard’s shed at the gate. “Danny Santos. I was asked to come.”
The guard checks his list and opens the gate. Danny drives ahead to put the past behind him.
