Resist - A Continuation
Parts 37-38
"What are you doing here?"
"I'm glad you're okay."
"Why do you care? It's because of you that I'm in this hospital bed."
"Maybe. Probably."
"Get out. And stay out of my life."
The nerve. My whole world has turned upside down in a few short months and destroyed in a few short hours. I reach for the nurses buzzer and request Dr. Rick Bauer. He's here in about five minutes.
"Goodness. I left you for ten minutes and when I came back, you were passed out."
"Rick, what's wrong with me?"
"You're underweight, anemic and under too much stress. We've got to get your strength up and keep you healthy. You do remember what happened the last time you were pregnant. Don't you?"
"I don't see how my pregnancy with Andrew has anything to do with what's wrong with me now."
"Michelle, I told you before that you're pregnant."
My heart is overjoyed. I try to sit up, but can't. Then I remember this is an electric bed and I push the button that raises the head area.
"No. You didn't. I would have remembered that."
"Yes, I did. That's why I want you to stay with me and Abby. You don't need any stress. I told that to Danny, too."
"You told him I was pregnant?" Oh my God. He knows and he's not here. I've really lost him.
"No, of course not. That's not my place."
I sigh in relief. Danny doesn't know. I have to tell him. "Where is he Rick? What exactly did you and he talk about?"
"Look Michelle. I just let the guy know that since he isn't treating you or Andrew right, that Abby and me want you to stay with us. And he agreed."
"He agreed to what? That he doesn't treat me right or to me staying with you?"
"The latter. But..."
I cut him off, "...okay. Now did he say where he was going? Or was he upset? I need to know Rick. It's important."
"Why do you care so much for him?"
"I know you're concerned for me and Andrew and I love you for that, but you have to let me live my life. I'm a grown woman who's made some mistakes. Nothing and no one is perfect. No one. So, I would really appreciate it if you would let me handle my husband, okay?"
Rick kisses my forehead. "Okay, but I'm still here for you if you ever need me. I want to keep you here overnight if you won't come home with me."
"No. I need you to sign me out so I can get Andrew and go home."

Andrew is asleep in his bedroom. I ask Kathleen to keep him occupied if he should awake. Pilar and Carmen are no where to be found. And neither is Danny.
He's my biggest concern, though I want to make Carmen understand the truth. As far as Pilar goes...well, she can rot in hell. Ditto for Colin Beckett.
Who knew someone so nice would be mixed up with the Santos' and be as underhanded as them. I still can't put my finger on why he is going along with this charade or why he even added to it. Pilar definitely didn't know he was going to announce that I'm not Andrew's mother.
I venture into the kitchen to get something to eat. I'm pregnant. A smile creeps across my face. Andrew is such a joy and another bundle of joy is just so exciting. Hopefully Danny will be excited, too. He didn't get a chance to experience all of this when I was pregnant with Andrew. But circumstances were different then. They're not all that perfect now either, thanks to Pilar and Colin.
Will I have cravings this time around? I'll definitely take better care of myself. Rick was absolutely correct about my health and stress.
As I'm thinking, I decide to make a sandwich. The refrigerator is packed with goodies. Olga is gone for the evening. So I'm on my own. I'm startled out of my thoughts when I hear someone clearing their voice.
