Resist - A Continuation

Part 34

By LNJ

The last few days have been wonderful; a little weird, but wonderful. Danny and I have been doing a lot of talking. He’s so different with me now. And it doesn’t seem like he's trying to be different, either. I really believe he loves me and couldn’t be happier.

Danny kept Andrew while Kathleen and myself got everything finalized. We’re both transferring to Springfield University. I’ll be continuing my medical education and Kathleen will pursue a Masters in Early Childhood Learning. She’s so good with Andrew and I know she’ll be great with anyone else’s child.

Ray drove up last night so we could all spend the evening together in Chicago. Kathleen was thrilled. I still don’t feel comfortable with her seeing Ray, but will support her, as I will be her only family in Springfield. Kathleen and I have actually grown quite close through all of this. I’m more than her employer now. She’s like a sister. Too bad it will never be like that with Pilar.

It’s Saturday and we are all packed up and ready to go home.

Home. My home with Danny and our son. Maybe things will work out. Danny promised me he would make this work. I’m so excited about the prospect of really being a wife, mother, lover, friend, student. What’s that song? "I’m Every Woman." Yes, that's it.

Andrew rides home with Ray and Kathleen. He really missed Ray, almost as much as he missed Danny. Our son is awesome. I thank God that things are working out with Danny and me. It will only make Andrew a better, stronger person. At least that’s what I’m hoping.

In the car, Danny and I talk about everything from music to television to books. We don’t even know one another’s likes and dislikes…outside of making love that is. We plan on going on picnics, bike riding, joining karate...the list is endless.

We arrive home and Jimmy and Carlos come unload the cars. I don't see Dietz. He must be on an assignment. It's funny how Danny and me never talk about the business. I guess I don't really want to know what goes on. But it would be nice if Andrew could have something other to look forward to than running an illegal business. Maybe I can convince Danny to make the business legitimate. I'll wait a bit before I broach that subject.

Kathleen is going to stay in the mansion with us until the house is finished. Danny decided to have me a house built while I was in Chicago. No expense ever spared around here.

I'm brought out of my thoughts by my son's voice.

"Mama, I wanna see Gwamma."

"Okay honey. Let's go find her. Danny are you coming in?"

"You guys go ahead. I need to talk to Ray first."

We share a smile and I take Andrew's hand and Kathleen takes his other and we go inside.

As soon as we enter the foyer, Andrew starts yelling, "Ohhh Gwamma. I'm home. Where are you?"

"In here," she calls from the dining room.

Andrew and I head in that direction while Kathleen excuses herself.

I'm surprised and scared by Carmen's guests.

Bernard Rivera and Colin Beckett.

And who but Pilar Santos is sitting at the table grinning ear to ear.
