Forever Yours
Parts 5-6
"I hope you don’t mind me stopping
by."
"How did you know where I lived? Surely if you found that, you could’ve
found my telephone number and called. And exactly what did you say to my
brother, that he would let you wait for me in my kitchen? Chatting, no
less."
He gets up and walks over to me. He’s wearing that black leather jacket again.
The gray sweater hugs his form underneath the jacket. His black jeans fit
perfectly. He’s definitely hot. I’ll give him that.
I’m presented with a plain red box the shape of a heart. It’s really
lightweight. Don’t tell me he ate all the candy. Maybe it’s not a candy box
after all.
"Open it."
I obey. Walking to the table, I sit down and study the contents of the box. It’s
empty.
"It’s empty."
"That’s right. That box symbolizes my life, my heart, and my soul. Now I
know this may sound crazy, but you are the only one that can fill the void in my
life," he says sitting back down across from me.
All I can do is stare at the box. Then after a few moments, I replace the cover.
I trace the outline of the box.
"You still haven’t answered my questions."
"Angela."
"Angela told you where I lived?" I ask incredulously.
"And she told Rick I would be paying a visit this morning. The four of us
have a full weekend ahead of us. By the way, I like your brother and
sister-in-law."
My heart feels like it’s going to jump out of my body. This man is so bold.
And yet I can’t be angry. But I can’t just give in either.
"You’re pretty sure of yourself. What do you do when you don’t get your
way?"
"I always get my way," he smiles.
"Oh. And who is "the four of us"?"
"Me, you, Angela, and my cousin Ray Santos. He was with me at the party.
Please say you’ll spend some time with me. I really want us to get to know one
another. "
"I don’t know. I’ve sworn off all men. They can’t be trusted." I
hold his stare. His eyes are intense. His whole composure gets serious at my
last comment.
"Michelle, I won’t hurt you. But I’ll be honest and say that I have
done my share of hurting. Most women only want me for my body and/or my
money." He gives me that mischievous grin again. "For some reason,
when I saw you that night, I forgot my mission in life."
With an arched eyebrow, I ask, "Which is?"
"To conquer women."
"An easy lay?"
"Right. But you definitely didn’t look like that kind of woman. As a
matter of fact, you stood out as the only woman at that party. You were
hiding that sexy body and your face was just beautiful. I suspect you didn’t
have on one stitch of make-up. Seeing you now, in that dress and those legs;
those curls…God those curls…and that lipstick; I mean, you’re gorgeous.
And the fact that you are subtle in you beauty makes me weak for you."
I know I’m blushing. This man is smooth. Too smooth.
"Are you out to conquer me?" I ask with a hint of playfulness in my
voice.
Standing up, Danny removes his jacket. I had no idea just how muscular he was.
Talk about hiding a sexy body. He drapes the jacket on the back of the chair and
comes around to my side of the table. I stand up quickly, not able to anticipate
his next move. He gently pulls me to him, sliding my hands up his chest and
wrapping my arms around his neck. His hands fall to my waist and he holds me
close. I don’t even resist. These arms were made to hold me.
Staring into my eyes, he whispers, "oh yeah, I’m out to conquer
you."
"I won’t sleep with you."
"I would prefer we wait for the wedding night anyway."
"Really? And what will you do in the meantime?"
"Abstain."
"This is all so hard to believe. You have to know that."
"And you have to know that once I saw you, I knew that I was forever
yours."
"What about Ray and Angela? They don’t know one another. Surely you can’t
expect them to just get along."
"They’ve been getting along just fine."
"Care to explain?"
"While we were outside that night, they hooked up. They’ve been talking
on the telephone every night this week."
"They have? Angela hasn’t said a word."
"It’s true. Anyway, I thought we could all hang out together. I want you
to be completely comfortable around me. So what do you say? Give me a
chance."
He steps out of our embrace. I expected him to kiss me.
"You’re so unpredictable."
"Well, I won’t kiss you until you’re ready, if that’s what you’re
referring to."
I place me hands on my hips and lean against the table. We size each other up
for a moment. I see his eyes take in my body and each curve from head to toe.
His gaze lingers on my legs.
When his eyes track back up my body to meet mine, huskily he says,
"hopefully the wedding night won’t be too far off."
"Alright. You win. Let’s go. But no more talk of weddings and wedding
nights."
He smiles a smile of victory and retrieves his jacket. I run upstairs to get my
purse and a sweater and when I come back down, he’s waiting for me by the
kitchen door.
Before we leave, he says, "you felt really good in my arms."
"Danny, it felt good to be in your arms." I know he wasn’t expecting
that and I’m glad it pleased him. I give him a bright smile that matches his
own and then we leave.

"Hello?"
"Hey, it’s me. Are you studying?"
"Yeah, for about another hour. What’s up?"
"Would you like to do some Christmas shopping with me?"
"I don’t know Danny. Shouldn’t we be with our families for that kind of
stuff?"
"Michelle, let me ask you something."
"Yes?"
"Do you like me?"
"Yes."
"Do you enjoy spending time with me?"
"Yes."
"So what’s the problem? You know how I feel about you and I want to spend
as much time with you as possible. Is our relationship too new for us to be
together during the holidays? Is that it?"
"Well, yes. I mean, we’ve known each other for two months. I don’t want
to monopolize your time, especially during the holidays."
"You’re not. I want to be with you. Besides, you haven’t met my
family."
"I don’t know if I’m ready for that. Look, I’ll compromise during the
holidays. You and I can spend time together with Ray and Angela and maybe my
brother and his wife. We can see each other here or at Angela's."
"Is it Jesse?"
"Huh???"
"Jesse Blue. You know, the guy you were dating before me."
"I don’t want to talk about him."
"We need to. I’m on my way over. Don’t leave."

It’s been an hour since Danny hung up. What’s taking him so long? I’m
sitting at the kitchen table, attempting to study. But all I can think about is
Danny Santos.
He’s awesome. No man could be sweeter. He hasn’t even made an attempt to
kiss me. If I didn’t talk to him on the telephone everyday or see him every
weekend, I would think he wasn’t interested.
Why do we have to talk about Jesse? Do I tell Danny that Jesse has also been
calling me everyday? Do I tell him that just last night, I finally broke down
and spoke to Jesse, agreeing to meet with him to talk?
I don’t want to lose Danny. I know that for sure. But I need to get past this
thing with Jesse. What if all Jesse and me needed was time apart? I really don’t
know Danny, but I know Jesse. He has my mother’s heart. Jesse taught me how to
love. But still…
I’m shaken from my thoughts when I hear a knock at the kitchen door. I get up,
go to the door, take a deep breath and then open it.
"Jesse."
"Danny."
Shit! They’re both here. Now what do I do?
