A Snowy Night
Part 19

Michelle sat on the cot in her
cell trying to tune out the constant noise of the other inmates. Her legs were
pulled up in front of her and her chin was resting on top of her knees.
"Damn it, I wish I could have five minutes of peace."
The guard came to the front of the cell, "Santos, you have a visitor."
Michelle rose and silently gave thanks for the reprieve from the cellblock noise
that the visitor’s room provided. She walked to the cell door and followed the
guard. She took her seat behind the glass and looked up, assuming it would be
Danny again. He was only allowed to come twice a day, and since he hadn’t come
yet this morning, Michelle was sure it would be him. She was shocked to look up
and come face to face with Dietz.
Michelle cautiously reached up and took the phone. "Dietz, what are you
doing here? Delivering one of Carmen’s threats."
"No, missy. I came because even I think Carmen has gone too far this time.
Her obsession with breaking up you and Danny has led her to make some reckless
and dangerous moves. I’ve spent too many years working for this family to see
Carmen throw it all down the tubes because she can’t deal with her children
having lives of their own. I think it’s time to let you in on the truth."
Michelle gave Dietz a puzzled look as she spoke, " Dietz, I know the truth
about what Carmen did to Ben, I just can’t prove she set me up. Unless you
have something that will prove Carmen framed me, I can’t think of anything you
would need to tell me the truth about."
"Michelle, what I have to tell you will change everything. I have one
condition you have to meet before I tell you anything."
"What would that be?" Michelle asked.
"You can’t tell Danny anything about my visit for 48 hours."
"I don’t keep secrets from Danny. If you have something to tell me, he
will hear it."
"Listen, what I have to tell you could get me killed if the Boss finds out
I was here and that I told you this. I need enough time to get away before Danny
finds out. Once he hears what I’m about to tell you, he won’t be able to
stop himself from confronting his mother."
"Okay, Dietz. I’ll agree to keep your visit a secret from Danny. What do
you have to say?"
"Well, you and that Jacobs girl didn’t cause Mick’s death."
