Love Leads The Way
Part Six
By Pepper
Danny walked into the Millenium and sat down in his usual spot. He was just getting ready to ask the bartender if he had anything for him, card wise (he had to smile to himself) when he heard a screechy voice say, "Danny Santos! Just the man I want to see!"
He turned around and came face to face with Drew.
"Hello Drew," he said as he turned back to the bar, hoping she would leave. He never felt comfortable around her since that night long ago.
"Hello Danny," she mocked at him playfully smiling.
She came and stood on the other side of the bar, looking him square in the face.
"You want a drink?"
"With you? No thanks, not a good idea."
Drew laughed. "No, not a good idea. Especially today being what it is and all."
"You know too?" Danny asked, sounding a little exasperated.
"You mean you don't?" Drew asked in shock.
"No, I don't," said Danny, now mocking her.
"Uh oh, that's not good."
"So why don't you tell me then?" asked Danny sarcastically.
"Oh I can't do that Danny, I'm sorry," Drew said, somewhat sympathetically.
"Great, just great," Danny muttered, his good mood rapidly deteriorating into a nasty temper. Drew always seemed to have that effect on him.
"So, Danny, um...do you want to take your supper now?" asked Drew, clearly seeing that Danny was in a foul mood.
"Oh so you know about that huh? No wait, why am I surprised, everyone knows what's going on but me!" Danny exclaimed, frustrated.
"I'm sorry Danny," Drew says, understandingly. "You'll find out soon enough." She patted his hand understandingly.
"I know," Danny grumbled, his mood slightly higher thinking about the crazy day his wife has been putting him through.
"Hey Jesse," Drew yells, swinging back to the kitchen door. "Can you bring me Danny and Michelle's order please?"
"Yeah sure," Jesse yelled, poking his head out the door. "Hey Danny," he said, waving, before going back in the kitchen.
Danny only nodded. Jesse still didn't hold a very fond place in his heart.
"Danny," Drew said, hesitatingly. "Um...I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry for all the trouble I caused you, all those months ago. I felt really awful, I still do. I'm so glad that you and Michelle have made it you know? I mean, it could have broken you up, but it made you even stronger. I feel so lucky that Michelle forgave me. We've even managed to salvage our friendship. Danny," Drew said pointedly, leaning over and making him look her in the face.
"Danny, I am so thankful to have Michelle for a friend. I hope that someday, somehow, you can forgive me for what happened and that we can be friends too. I hope you won't hate me forever."
"Drew, I," Danny said, hesitatingly. "I'll admit, we didn't start out under the greatest of circumstances, but, I don't hate you. I may not say things right, or even be very nice to you, but I don't hate you. Maybe...since Michelle was able to forgive you, I...I should try to put it behind me too. Deal?"
"Deal!" Drew exclaimed, smiling widely.
Jesse poked his head out of the kitchen door. "Your supper is ready man." He passed out a couple of boxes out to Drew and headed back in the kitchen.
"Great," said Danny, rising to leave. "And thanks Drew. I'm glad you told me how you felt. I think we can be friends." He smiled at her as he turned to leave.
"Oh and Danny!" Drew yelled after him.
He turned around and said, "Yes, Drew?"
"I'd get her something if I was you, something nice. I can't tell you why, but...just take my advice okay?"
"Okay Drew, whatever you say," Danny said and turned again to leave.
Once outside and safely back in his car, he quickly opened the boxes, looking for his card.
He finally found it, nestled down in the corner, under the napkins. He opened it excitedly, wondering where in the world Michelle was going to send him next. This tiny card had several hearts on the front and me+you was written all over it. He opened it to read Rendezvous? He smiled.
"Maybe finally I'm going to make it to Michelle," he thought.
"Danny,
One last stop, I promise! Maria has somethings for us at your house. I know you probably don't want to run into your mother, but please Danny, I really need this stuff! I promise this is the last trip! Then we'll finally be together! I love you!
Love, Michelle"
Danny sat back in his seat and groaned.
