The TV Show Challenge
Laverne and Shirley-Springfield Style
By Sandy
Scene opens...Michelle and Drew are walking down the street of Springfield arm-in-arm dressed in warm winter coats when suddenly they start to speed up...skip..and sing..
cue music....
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
Sclemeel, schlemazel, hasenfeffer incorporated.
We're gonna do it!
Give us any chance, we'll take it.
Give us any mob family, we'll break it.
We're gonna make our dreams come true.
Doin' it our way.
Nothin's gonna turn us back now,
Straight ahead and on the track now.
We're gonna make our dreams come true,
Doin' it our way.
Drew sings on her own...
There's no man I won't try,
Never heard the word impossible.
This time there's no stopping meeeee
I'm gonna do it. . .
Michelle gives her a dirty look and sings on her own..
On your mark, get set, and go now,
Danny's mine and I just know now,
We're gonna make our dream come true.
And we'll do it our way, yes our way.
Together they sing...
Make all our dreams come true,
And do it our way, yes our way,
Make all our dreams come true
For me and you. The story opens in the cramped ground-floor apartment of life-long friends and co-workers Drew Difozio and Michelle Feeney. Drew, dressed in a very tight aqua marine sweater adorned with an ornate "D" emblazoned over her left breast is fixing herself her favorite snack...a large glass of pepsi and milk with a shot of tequila thrown in for that extra kick.
"Are you sure you don't want me to fix you a glass Michelle?", Drew inquires, "This is the breakfast of champions."
Michelle, looking very demure in matching pink sweater twin set and poodle skirt, looks slightly disgusted as Drew downs the concoction in one gulp. Michelle clutching her stuffed animal in her arms exclaims, "Just look at that BooBoo Kitty! How very unladylike!"
Just then the front door to the apartment burst open..
"Helloooo girls" Oh God, it's the goofy upstairs neighbours Bill and Jesse looking like extra's from the 50's movie "West Side Story". Jesse's greased back hair and hipster doofus retro look screamed Elvis wannabe, while, poor befuddled Bill in his rumpled Hawaiin shirt trailed behind his more extroverted companion.
"We missed you girls during the lunch-break. I thought we were all going to sit together in the cafeteria." Jesse was more than just a little put out. First Michelle dumps him and now Drew, his main squeeze, seemed to be avoiding him. What is it with women!?!
The foursome were all employees of the Santos Brewery, division of Sancorp Int. who worked the line bottling the famous Godfather Beer, "A Beer that makes you an offer you cannot refuse" and Godfather Lite, "It's a real HIT with your friends and your ennemies" Oh well, it was a job.
"Ya shouda been there to see Bill making gaga eyes at that Pilar chick", Jesse teased his blushing roomate. Everyone except Bill seemed to know that she takes those extra long lunches in Plant Manager Dietz's office where food was not on the menu. Pilar wanted a cushy office job away from the exhausting work of the assembly line, but, Bill was oblivious to all the gossip and had worshipped Pilar from afar for nearly 8 months.
Drew couldn't decide if the effect of the pepsi/milk/tequila hitting her empty stomach or the empty ramblings of Jesse Blue was making her dizzy, but she didn't want to take any chances and threw herself down on the couch. It's funny, but when Michelle had been dating him, Drew had been crazy about Jesse, I mean he was sooo James Dean but, lately, well...since she had become Jesse's girl, he seemed more Jerry Lewis than James Dean. And dammit, everytime she tried to have a conversation with him his eyes were always fixed on the "D" on her chest rather than on her face.
"Didn't you hear the news?" Drew asked. It was posted on the bullentin board in the Staff Room, "Sancorp and all of it's affiliates are sponsoring a Talent Show open to all it's employees. Sancorp president Ben Warren will be the judge. First place is a Hundred Thousand Dollars!!!!"
The four friends sat in silence, each thinking what they would do with the winnings and how it could make all their dreams come true.
Michelle clutched BooBoo Kitty even tighter. She HAD to find a way to win that contest, her whole future...hers and DANNY's depended on it.....
end of part one....
