The Song Challenge
The First Time

Danny and Michelle lay in their bed in close proximity but, for all intents and purposes they could have been miles apart. So many nights in this bed, so many nights separated by an ocean of troubles.
Danny felt Michelle shift her position and he wondered if she was facing his back. He didn't dare move, in case she was awake. He never knew what she was thinking anymore.
"I was so sure that I knew exactly what she was all about. I thought I could handle this. UGH! Why does she have to be so beautiful? Why is it that when we're in this bed I feel like I can reach out to her?" , he thought.
Michelle looked at Danny's back and wondered if he was awake. She hadn't felt him move in a long time. She spent many nights looking at his back.
"He never turns this way. I wonder if he makes a concious effort to not face this way?", she thought.
The desire to touch him overcame her. If he only knew how she felt.
"I wish I could tell him. I wish things could be different. I wish, I wish, oh so many wishes....He'd never believe me, not after everything I've said.", she mused.
It had been weeks of fighting him. Never letting him gain an inch. At night she believed he would accept her with no questions but, in the light of day, she saw in his eyes the doubts about her.
"He doesn't trust me. Who can blame him?", she sighed.
Danny heard her sigh and felt her breath on his back.
"She's not facing away! Should I face her?", he argued with himself.
For weeks now he'd seen something different about Michelle's attitude towards him. She seemed to laugh more freely. She genuinely seemed to want to get to know him. Just the other night they had been sitting around doing nothing and she'd said, "Danny, let's watch a movie, or listen to music. Come on, what's your favorite CD right now? Your favorite song?"
He'd been taken aback by her sudden interest in him. Usually they spent the
hours before bed doing their own thing. Then she would go into the bathroom and
she'd get ready for bed. It was torture to watch her in her preparations.
Sometimes he'd make sure to be out of the room when she would perform her
nightly ritual of rubbing lotion into her shoulders and brushing
her hair. Other times he relished the torture. She was so beautiful and it made
him feel alive and even close to her to see her in such an intimate moment.
"Well", he began, "I like the Goo Goo Dolls, "Dizzy up the girl" It's great music for when you're driving in your car."
"HA!", she'd laughed, "I bet you're like everyone else. You probably listen to "Iris" the most.", she'd teased.
He denied it, but he did like the song. It reminded him of her.
"And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am..."
"Michelle, if you could just see me...SEE ME!", he thought and sighed loudly.
"Danny? Danny are you awake?" , Michelle asked.
He debated about letting her know he was awake. Then suddenly without really thinking about it he turned to face her.
"Hi", he whispered.
"Hi" , she whispered back.
Michelle didn't know what made her do it, but suddenly her hand reached up
and caressed his face. He looked stunned and unsure of what to do next. With a
shake of her head she leaned towards him and kissed him lightly on
the lips.
"Michelle?" he managed to exhale.
"Shh! Don't say anything." she replied.
Suddenly their mouths met in a furious passion. Their tongues danced in each others mouth. Michelle felt like she was losing herself and Danny felt like his world was going to explode. He reached for her the edge of her nightgown and she eased up to help him. He sat up pulling her with him. He pulled her gown over her head and suddenly she was naked before him. His eyes looked her up and down.
"You're beautiful" , he said as he watched her face for any sign of hesitation. "Oh God, please don't stop this now..." he thought.
Michelle reached for his hand and placed it on her breast. He cupped her in his hand and breathing heavily went in for a kiss. Their kiss grew hungry and she began to moan as he angled his head downward to place his mouth where his hand had just been. Her full breast felt soft and silky as he pulled on her nipple with his teeth. Her moans became deeper and Danny knew that there was no turning back as she pulled on his boxer shorts. He stopped breathing momentarily as he felt her hands touch him. He reached for her panties and laid her back on the bed to remove them. He slipped out of his shorts and hesitated as he lay over her. He looked into her eyes. He slowly inched his way closer and finally he felt her there. One barrier to make this moment complete.
"Danny, Danny, Danny...", she breathed.
"Michelle, Michelle, Michelle...", he responded.
They became one.
"And All I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight..."
