It was a perfect day to fly back to Springfield. The sun was shining, and the clouds in the sky were white as snow. Danny and Michelle held hands, as the looked out the window of the plane, watching with a new sense of wonder the beauty of the earth and sky around them.
It was Michelle who broke their silence. "So, where are we going first?" she asked.
"Id really like to go straight to the hospital," Danny said softly. "I hope you dont mind."
"Of course not," Michelle replied. "I need to make an appointment with Dr. Sedwick while were here."
Danny smiled at that thought. Michelle was pregnant, with his child. "Do I get to come with you?" he asked.
Michelle smiled, nodded, and leaned up to kiss her husband. They were blissfully happy. A happiness that was almost too good to be true.
Ray was plagued by fitful dreams. He was so frustrated because he couldnt speak clearly. The medication he was on still left him groggy. Hed heard the nurses say that Danny was returning in a few days, and he desperately wanted to be able to tell him everything. But the fact that he was still so weak, and unable to convey his thoughts left him angry, and filled his sleep with dreams of never being able to tell Danny the truth.
Carmen, too, had heard that Danny and Michelle were returning to town. She was sure Danny had married that little twit again while they were away. After being away together for 5 weeks, they would be even harder to separate, but Carmen vowed to find a way. She had worked to hard to make Danny her own, and no one was ever going to take him from her. No one.
He watched Carmen step onto the elevator at Cedars Hospital. He knew she was on her way up to see Ray. Shed played the part of the concerned aunt so well, but he knew the truth. He knew that she was as cold and heartless as they come. Rays journal was still in his briefcase. Thank God she had no idea about it. If she knew that Ray held her darkest secret, and that hed recorded it in his journal, shed have an army of her henchmen here in an instant, to "take care of the problem".
"Its almost over," he thought. "Dannys coming back today, and if Ray doesnt tell him everything the minute he walks into that hospital room, this journal is going to find its way into the hands of Daniel Santos."
