1960 - year that some of the old letters were from that the Schoolmaster Guy carried. Pg. 7
Alexander (de Large) - The 15 year old narrator of the story. In the book his last name isn't ever given. He refers to himself as Alexander The Large. Only in the movie script is de Large used, but his age isn't mentioned. He lived at municipal flat block 18-A Linear North in an unknown British town with his Pe an Em. By the time the story ends he is 18. He was played by Malcolm McDowell who was 28. In the ACO 2004 play he was played by Phil Daniels.
Amis Avenue - street near the library where the Duke of New York pub was located. Pg. 8
And I will go back to my darling, my darling, When you, my darling, are gone. - made up song the tramp sings in the novel. Pg. 13
Aristotle - a drunk in the Korova sings a nonsense song about him. Pg. 3
Attlee Avenue - Location of a sweets and cancers shop that Alex and his gang frequently robbed, run by Slouse. They robbed it for the first time in 3 months near the start of the story. Pg.9
Basil - Alex's snake in the film. The snake doesn't not appear in the book. The only reason it appears in the film was that Kubrick heard Malcolm was afraid of snakes and he brought it in as a practical joke. The joke was on him since he wasn't afraid of them.
Berti Laski - an old singer who sang 'You Blister My Paint'. Pg. 4
Black - Color of the droogs clothes in the book including tights and designer codpieces. Pg. 2
Black and suds - liquor that the old women in the Duke of New York drank. Pg. 8
Bog - God.
Boothby Avenue - a road near the Korova off Marghanita Blvd. Pg. 5
Cheese-snacks - snack food the droogs bought at the Duke of New York. Pg. 9

Cockles and Mussels - the song the tramp was singing in the film when
Alex and his droogs found him. He sings a different song in the novel.
Cravat - the droogs wore off white ties in the novel with wild spinning
designs on them. Pg. 2
Crowbar - the Slouse's used it for opening cases. Alex used it to open Mother Slouses' skull. Pg.10
Dim - One of Alex's droogs. He was big, stupid and strong as an ox and got dirty and bloody very fast in a scrap which annoyed Alex. His weapon of choice was a few feet of chain he kept around his waist like a belt. He liked to kick and was good at it. He became a police officer while Alex was incarcerated. He was played by Warren Clark. Pg. 1-3
Disraeli - Mask that Alex wore in the book. (As in Benjamin Disraeli, a 19th century author and politician in England.) Pg. 9
Drencrom - one of the drugs in the milk plus sold at the Korova Milkbar. Pg. 1
Double firegolds - liquor the old ladies in the Duke of York liked. Pg. 9
Droog - friend. "...my three droogs, that is Pete, Georgie, and Dim." Pg. 1
Duke of New York - a pub on Amis Avenue that the droogs went to frequented by old women who liked to drink hard liquor like double firegolds and Yank General cognac. Pg. 8-9
Elementary Crystallography - a book the man was carrying near the library that the droogs attacked. It is an old, thick hardcover. Pg. 5
Elvis Presley - Mask that Pete wore in the book. (The most famous Rock and Roll singer in the US from the 1950s through the 70s) Pg. 9
F. Alexander - Mr. Alexander. A subversive writer who was against the government. He wrote "A Clockwork Orange." In the film the F. stands for Frank. He was played by Patrick McGee. Pg. 21-3
Fingernail - you could get hypnotized by staring at one if you were really high. Pg. 3
Flower - design on Georgie's codpiece in the book. Pg. 2
Georgie Boy - One of Alex's droogs. He was closest to Dim who he could control. In the film he becomes a cop, but in the book he is killed in a botched robbery when Alex was in prison. He was played by James Marcus. Pg. 1
Hand - design on Pete's codpiece in the book. Pg. 2
Henry VIII - Mask that Georgie wore in the book. (Famous king of England in the 1500s. Infamous for being married 6 times. He also separated the Church of England from Roman Catholicism.) Pg. 9
Jackets - the droogs wore waist length black jackets without lapels and pumped up shoulders. Pg. 2
Jelly Mould - what the droogs called their codpieces. Pg. 2
Joe - name of a boy one of the girls in the Korova slept with. Pg. 3
Julien - Mr. Alexander's bodyguard and assistant he hired some time after he was crippled by Alex. He does not appear in the book. He was created by Kubrick to keep Alex from running away. He was played by David Prowse.
Korova Milkbar - the favorite hangout of Alex and his droogs. They drank milk plus, milk spiked with drugs that made then violent. Loud music usually played. Lots of nadsats hung out there and even the occasional older crowd like the sophistos from the TV studio. Korova means cow in Russian. One of only 4 sets built for the film. Pg. 1
Mackerel of the Cornflake - a curse Pete says to the man with the books. Pg. 6
Marghanita Boulevard - a road near the Korova off Boothby Avenue. Pg. 5
Meat pies - food the droogs bought at the Duke of New York. Pg. 9
Mestos - places. "...have forgotten what these mestos were like." Pg. 1
Mike - name of a boy one of the girls in the Korova slept with. Pg. 3
The Miracle of the Snowflake - a book the man was carrying near the library that the droogs attacked. Pg. 6
Moloko - milk. "...which they used to put into the old moloko" Pg. 1
Moon - the tramp tells Alex there are, "Men on the moon and men spinning round the earth like it might be midges round a lamp." This line tells us the setting is far in the future. Pg. 14
Mother Slouse - Wife of the owner a sweets and cancers shop on Attlee Avenue. Pg. 9
Mozg - brain. As in, "with lights bursting all over your mozg." Pg. 1
Newspapers - still are being published, but not much are read anymore. Pg. 1
Peebee Shelley - Mask that Dim wore in the novel. (Percy Bysshe "P.B." Shelley, an early 19th century poet and writer) Pg. 9
Peet - to drink as in "peet a drink." Pg. 1
Police - two young cops question Alex and his droogs at the Duke of New York about the violence and robbery at Slouse's shop. Pg.11-12
Pretzels - snack food the droogs bought at the Duke of New York. Pg. 9
Public Biblio - local public library a few blocks from the Korova. Pg. 5
Rainbows - young girls wore these as eye makeup. Pg. 2
Rassoodocks - minds. "...making up our rassoodocks what to do with the evening" Pg. 1
The Rhombohedral System - a book the man was carrying near the library that the droogs attacked. Pg. 6
SA - State Aid, like social security. Pg. 8
Schoolmaster Guy - an old man with false teeth who reads scientific books. He wore a vest and long underwear. The droogs attacked him and destroyed his books near the library. His scenes were cut from the film. Pg. 5-7
Silver Badges - girls wore these on their butts with the names of the boys they slept with. Pg. 3
Skorry - quick. As in "things changing so skorry these days". Pg. 1
Slouse - a fat man who ran a Slouse's Shop, a candy shop on Attlee Avenue and carried a gun under the counter. Alex and his droogs put him in the hospital after robbing him. Pg.10
Spider - design on Alex's codpiece in the book. Pg. 2
Synthemesc - one of the drugs in the milk plus sold at the Korova Milkbar. Pg. 1
Telephonic hardware - a drunk in the Korova sings a nonsense song about it. Pg. 4
Twenty-to-one - gang rape. Pg. 1
Umbrella - the Schoolmaster Guy by the library carries an old one. The droogs smashed it. Pg.5-8
Vellocet - one of the drugs in the milk plus sold at the Korova Milkbar. Pg. 1
Veteran - a drink of rum and cherry brandy. The Canadian variation had lime in it. Pg. 8
White - color of the droogs outfits in the film.
Wigs - girls wore these in many loud, unnatural colors such as purple, green & orange. They were also expensive costing 3-4 weeks pay. Pg. 2
Yank General - a brand of cognac. Pg. 9
Yarbles - balls, testicles. Alex tells Billyboy to "come and get one in the yarbles." Dim says it as a curse to Alex. Pg. 15, 29
Yellow - color your fingernail turned as you watched it when you were stoned. Pg. 3
