Markers in breast cancer

S100 calcium-binding
protein A6 (S100A6)

Other name(s)

Calcyclin (Ferrari S. et al., 1987)

Molecular biology

Gene: maps to 1q21-q25. It is present in single copy and has 3 exons (Ferrari S. et al., 1987).

Breast cancer

Cell lines:

Tumors:
- A series of primary breast tumors was collected and tested for expression of S100A4, S100A6 and S100 alpha/beta. All human breast-cancer tissues tested expressed S100A6, whereas the presence of S100A4 was more restricted. There was a significant correlation between enhanced expression of S100A4 and presence of the invasivity marker uPA (Pedrocchi M. et al., 1994).

- By immunohistochemistry, S100A4, S100A6, and S100B were found to be expressed at higher levels in cancer tissues than in normal tissues (Ilg E.C. et al., 1996).
