Markers in breast cancer

KiSS-1

Other name(s)

???

Molecular biology

Gene: KISS1 maps to 1q32 (West A. et al., 1998).
mRNA: size: 0.8-1.0 kb.
Protein: 164 aminoacids (aa); 18 kDa.

Breast cancer

Cell lines:
- Expression of KiSS1 in human breast carcinoma cells (MDA-MB-435) was shown to reduce their metastatic potential by 95% compared to control cells but did not suppress tumorigenicity. Thus, KiSS1 might function as a metastasis suppressor gene in at least some human breast cancers (Lee J.-H. and Welch D.R., 1997).
