Markers in breast cancer

Cadherin-11

Other name(s)

???

Molecular biology

Gene: on chromosome .
mRNA: size: 4.4 kb
Protein: 120 kD. Cadherin-11 has never been shown to be expressed in E-cadherin-expressing cell lines or tissues. Cadherin-11 interacts with beta-catenin in vitro (Shibata T. et al., 1996).

Breast cancer

Cell lines:
- Cadherin-11 protein and mRNA have been found in the MCF-7/Adr, MDA-MB-157, -231, BT549, and Hs578T breast cancer cell (BCC) lines. All these BCC lines are invasive and fibroblastoid , express vimentin, and do not express ER, desmoplakin, and E-cadherin. Cadherin-11 was not found in MDA-MB-175, -134, -435, -436, -453, -468, MCF-7, ZR-75-B, T-47D, BT-474, SK-BR-3, and CAMA-1 BCC lines. These lines are less invasive and do not express E-cadherin (Pishvaian M.J. et al., 1999).
