"Big" John Hess Vs. Andy "the hammer" Anderson
WINNER: Hey, his name is John Hess and he's here to break people. The mogoloid named Hess came on the scene and violated one of the 4 rules of the octagon. He will go down in infamy as the jerk who eye gouged in the UFC. He ended up winning by ref stoppage.
Larry "thunderfoot" Cureton Vs. Todd "el tiberon" Medina
WINNER: Medina takes Cureton down and goes hog wild with the headbutts. He ends up looking worse for the wear but he pulls out the win. Whatever it takes, I guess.
Dan Severn Vs. Joe Charles
WINNER: Severn rips Charles in half and starts a slappin on the ground. When Charles tries to climb up the fence to escape Severn gets him in a rear naked choke. Win for Severn.
Earnest "the heat" Verdecia Vs. Oleg "the russian bear" Taktarov
WINNER: Taktarov by side choke.
"dangerous" Dave Beneteau Vs. Todd "el tiberon" Medina
WINNER: john hess can't continue because he hurt his hand. In steps Canadian wrestler Dave Beneteau. Another one of the early adapters of ground and pound. He ends up smearing Medina in no time at all. Another alternate in the finals.
Dan "the beast" Severn Vs. Oleg "the russian bear" Taktarov
WINNER: In perhaps the bloodiest fight of the UFC Severn traps Taktarov against the fence and just keeps banging on him to open up the cut on his head. Ref has to stop it because Taktarov's face is a bloody mess. Nasty. Severn continues and believe it or not Taktarov is mad that they stopped it.
Royce Gracie Vs. Ken "one punch" Shamrock
WINNER: Ken comes in with a new nickname. Same old Royce. Some have called this...the current holder of the UFC record for longest fight in history (just north of 30 minutes)...boring. I think it was a good fight. Royce worked the guard and Shamrock tried to get out of it. They got stood up and Shamrock landed a good punch. Then more guard. This one ended up as a draw and with time limits becoming more frequent in the UFC this is Royce Gracies last step into the Octagon and probably will be his last appearance ever in UFC competition. He is still going in Pride, though. So is Shamrock, though. Funny how things work out...
Dan "the beast" Severn Vs. "dangerous" Dave Beneteau
WINNER: The beast comes in and spanks "dangerous dave" before getting the keylock implied. The Beast lives up to expectations and takes UFC 5. He's set for a superfight with Shamrock in UFC 6.
Severn had a lot to live up to but it didn't seem that anyone he fought tonight really gave him a workout. He's moving on to better things when Shamrock, though. Decided to go with a different picture here because, he's happy now...see?
How sure were the UFC that Dan Severn would win? So Sure they named the event after him. First and Last time for that in the UFC too. Also a first was the addition of the superfight between the all time winningest fighter in UFC history, Royce Gracie (still is today) and the former King Of Pancrase and Ultimate Fighter himself, Ken Shamrock. Let's see what happened...
