This movie is normally a diaglogue driven movie and for the most part the dialogue is well taken care of. The movie does get a couple of chances to stretch it's legs and turns into something to show your friends. There's some cool surround action in the beginning test flight and in the end space sequences but in all, there's not too much loudness there. It shows up when it has to.
They tried to give it a go at the special features section but it eally leaves a void. There are a coulple of making-ofs and then a week ass cutscene that is about 8 minutes and about 8 minutes too long. Most of the pathetic stuff here is Jay Leno trying to do a funny monologue. Yeah right. Like that's gonna happen. He hasn't been funny since Monica Lewinsky wasn't a story anymore.
If you like the movie check it out. If you are in the mood for something a little bit more laid back...here you go. Don't expect the thunder and don't expect any special features and this is your cup of tea.
Normally this kind of movie isn't my cup of tea, but I got to be honest with you...I was really looking forward to this one. It starts off with a rather odd flashback with younger guys talking with older guys voices. Eastwood and company dubbed their voices over the younger actors and for the most part it worked exept for Tommy Lee Jones. He has too distinct a voice for that. It just didn't fit. The guy who played a younger Clint Eastwood, though, is frightningly close to being Eastwoods twin at the time. Then we get to the present were a russian sattelite that is controlled by a guidence system made by Eastwood is going to crash into Earth. For some reason they need to keep this in space and since the technology is too old they get the original crew (or rather Eastwood forces them to take the original crew) to go up and save it. That's the skiny. The meat and potatoes of this movie is in the interaction of the nasa people and the crew and the crew with the crew. This movie accels and making itself a very involving comedy/drama. I really liked this movie...until they took off. Then it's the same old crap with pretty visual effects. But the first half of this movie is too good to be completely wasted by the second half. The second half isn't too bad, either, it's just something that has been done better in other movies. I hate to say it but Armageddon did the outer space missions better. This movie is good for the first part, though. Very good human movie...something Armageddon never was.
