We do need journalism
Food for thought

Need ethics be a part of journalism? |
- There are formal ethics associated with each journalist firm
- Ethics - moral, social, cultural "rights"
|
A perceptual, circumstantial factor
Ethics is a part of living, thus journalism cannot ignore ethics

Does journalism need a free press environment to thrive? |
- Governmental policies, control and regulations are the existing laws of the land
- The failure to comply requires the weighing of odds & goals
- Free press would not definitely lead to good journalism
|
As the basis of journalism is probing & provoking issues, it depends on who is using what in which situations to illustrate why and how
The government might be obliged statutorily or historically to grant a free press & let the people decide
But a free press might have the adverse effects of con-journalism (poor, superficial, illusionary)
It is a people world, people as journalists, people as government, people as readers & responders
Do we have what it takes to judge journalism in a free press environment?
