What are the basic amenities of life? |
- The absolute basics in order to survive
- Clean air, fresh water, foods, shelter, protection & clothing
|
|
Why is medical healthcare most fundamental after these? |
- Once people & society have developed stable, reliable means of generating, maintaining & replenishing these basic amenities, the next physiological threat to survival is disease curing & health
- In order to continue to develop on the foundation of the basic amenities, people must be in satisfactory physical, emotional & mental health
|
|
What is the basic step to develop health? |
- The first, fundamental & instinctive step is to self-detect, self-care & self-cure: the body is fundamental to our existence in this manifestation, you must take care of the body yourself, nobody can diagnose & cure forever
|
|
How do we deal with injuries of others or ourselves? |
- Give
emergency medicine & first aid
- Worldwide first aid organizations like
St John’s & Red Cross / Red Crescent operate humanitarian missions across all barriers
- The
Singapore Red Cross provides local first aid assistance, training & education
- Note that everyone should have at least basic first aid skills like cleaning wounds, bandaging & common medical assistance (call ambulance) – remember we must be giving to the body what it has given us
- However, for more complicated first aid like CPR, childbirth, spine fractures, etc. be trained for effective first aid skills – it could one day save your loved ones’ lives

What can we do to ailments & sicknesses in Western medicine? |
- So-called Western medicine is the global standard of healthcare developed scientifically by advanced nations, especially in America & Europe with some in Asia
- It is a highly focused form of medical remedy that targets the detection, reduction, elimination & prevention of the particular disease or ailment suffered by the patient
- Medicine is an ever-evolving profession due to dynamic nature of disease & life itself, as such medical resources like
Google Health must be approached with a pinch of salt – do not put all eggs in one basket & do not place too much enthusiasm & faith in new "medical breakthroughs" (mostly journalistic heap)
- In Singapore, statutory control over medical practices & reports may or may not help depending on how you interpret – generally, the standard is above-average, but judge for yourself; here are three links –
SMA, health & medicine
- In addition, Western medicine also carries more active participation phenomena – support groups are common like
CancerStory, directory & Reader’s Digest

What does Chinese Traditional Medicine have to help us? |

|
Any relationships or similarities between the Western nervous system & Chinese acupoints? |
"The neuroendocrine / adaptive / homeostatic system of western medical philosophy underlies most AP (acupuncture) effects and mechanisms"

Last words |
- I need to emphasize the distinction between Western medicine (focus on target disease) & TCM (general total bodily & emotional well-being)
- There is also an outdated idea that TCM herbs are considered foods that can be ingested without harm – TCM has now been developed not only by Asians but increasingly by other advanced nations, thus techniques and herbs used are increasingly sophisticated & there is a possibility of undesirable effects if ingested without consultation
- My advice is that as "East-West" medicine become increasingly intertwined, both would inherit the benefits & shortcomings of the other, as such we the commoners should always consult before taking up any form of treatment, be it Western or Eastern
