Project Scope

The maintenance and enhancement of the Hoechst Engineering Management System (HEMS) - Equipment Management subsystem, and coding batch reports written in Easytrieve/I.

The HEMS system is an engineering information, inventory control, purchasing, and reordering system written in COBOL using CICS/VS and DL/I, and is used by the Hoechst head office and Altona plant complex.

The Company

Hoechst Australia was a major pharmaceuticals and plastics manufacturing company operating in Melbourne.  The company ceased operations in the 1990's.

Analyst/Programmer activities

Developed COBOL programs using CICS/VS and DL/I for the Work Order Processing System, a new addition to the HEMS system

The Work Order Processing System is used to allocate the costs of new projects to the many Hoechst departments, generate work order requests, allocate labour costs, update stock inventory online, and interface with the ITEM, SPARE PARTS, MACHINE, and EQUIPMENT databases, as well as using its own four databases.

Maintained and enhanced the existing HEMS system.

Modified online screen formats using Screen Format Utility (SFU), a product similar to BMS.

Created the Work Order Processing System user manual
