Nous Aider

<Suzanne>

She held her fathers hand, smiling at him as they walked toward her favorite bookstore. The air was cool and blowing lightly on her face, a few loose strands of her hair dancing across her face. She tugged on her fathers arm and pulled him into the store. She had asked the owner to hold a few copies for her and they were back outside in five minutes.

They headed to the market so she could purchase ingredients to bake Marguerite a cake. She had mentioned, many times since that night at Margot's salon, that their family should leave Paris and make their way out of the country. Her father always listened to her, but he never responded to her. He had put together a small package for Suzanne with some money and information about an account he had in England with enough money for them to live on if need be. Suzanne hadn't opened it. She didn't know the contents, simply that if they had to leave their home that she was to take it with her.

They turned a corner down the familiar street and Suzanne broke free of her father's grasp, seeing the market where she could buy the supplies needed for her cake excursion. Suzanne had never baked anything before. Her mother had gone pale when she had mentioned it to her. She turned to call something back to her father when she saw them. The revolutionaries! They had surrounded her father and they were confronting him. She could barely hear as the fear coursed through her veins, causing her skin to chill. Arrested? For what? She couldn't hear. They were asking him where his daughter had gone. He kept a cool eye and said that he did not know. Suzanne ducked into an alley, her instinct taking over she started to run. Run home to warn her mother. They had to leave, they had to leave and contact Lord Dewhurst! He had told her if they ever needed him he would help their family and they, indeed, needed him now. She burst into the servants entrance of their home, sweat beading on her brow and tears falling down her cheeks.

"Mamon! Mamon! They've arrested father!" She screamed before collapsing against the door frame. Her mother came running into the room and embraced her. They would have to leave and they would have to leave quickly if she were to keep her promise to her husband that Suzanne would remain safe... no matter what.
