Character's Full name:
Raoul, Vicomte de Chagney
Occupation:
Ex-Aristocrat
Physical Description:
A little over twenty-one years old, Raoul still looks eighteen. He has fair blue eyes and almost a girl's complexion. Having been raised and pampered the majority of his life by two sisters and an aunt, he retains from his feminine education manners that are quite candid and stamped with a charm that nothing yet has been able to sully. His shyness, or more likely his innocence, usually kept Raoul quiet and in the back on most goings-ons, preferring to watch life go on around him, but around Christine that demeanor suddenly changes.
Friendships/Relationships:
Brother - Comte Philipe de Chagney
in love with Christine Daae
Personal History:
His mother having died giving birth to him, and his father when he was twelve, Raoul was raised beneath the shadow of his older brother Phillipe. Twenty years younger than the Comte de Chagny, Raoul's attitude toward Phillipe was that of a devoted son rather than brother. With a twenty year gap between them, that was often the impression some people received upon first meeting the pair. Constantly the object of his brother's attention, Raoul was spoiled rotten from an early age. Often visiting his aunt, the widow of a naval officer, in Brest to spend the summer, Raoul developed a taste for the sea. This was also where he met Christine as a child, running into the sea to retrieve her scarf. He entered the naval education on the Borda training ship, graduated with honors near the top of his class, and made his trip around the world - all of it quietly. Raoul had just been appointed to serve on the Requin (mostly due to family contacts) and was enjoying a six-month shore leave in Paris where he was first reunited with his childhood sweetheart Christine at the Paris Opera House and also when the Revolution suddenly broke out. His family fortune upturned, his life torn away in a single moment, Raoul was reduced to the status of any other common Parisian and was arrested. If nothing else, Raoul lives now only for the thought that he and Christine possibly have a future together, since before the storming of the Bastille his social status forbid it. And as far as the Phantom goes, Raoul is more fearful of the guillotine than any rumored ghosts, and at this point has little to lose in defying Erik.
