40th Anniversary Celebrations  -  Field Day

Plans are now well underway for our 40th anniversary celebrations with a field day filled with activities to suit all ages, which will be held in St. Mary�s Park, Collinstown on Sunday July 19th next.  This promises to be a great day of celebration and the proceedings will kick off at 12.30 in the afternoon with a blessing from our local Parish Priest, Fr. Michael Walsh. Following this our chairman will make a presentation to our very first committee. David Kelly who is compiling a club history which will be on sale on the day priced at ten euro will give a brief rundown on the publication. 1pm will see a camogie match take place while the much anticipated over 40�s hurling competition with Raharney, Lough Lene Gaels, Clonkill and Castlepollard will kick off at 2.15pm when Castlepollard take on Clonkill followed by Lough Lene Gaels V Raharney at 3pm.  These matches will be 15 minutes per half with the final pencilled in for 5pm. Underage hurling and camogie mini matches are planned for 4pm.  A dog show will also take place and is timed for 3pm.  A best dressed lady competiton is planned for 5.45 which will be followed by the very popular tug of war competitions which will get underway at 6.30pm.  Results of our raffle will be made known at 7pm.  Tickets are priced at 5 euro and the prizemoney is as follows; 1st prize, 500; 2nd prize 250 euro 3rd and 4th prizes 100 euro; 5th and 6th prizes 50 euro. Refreshments will be available throughout the day and amongst the sideshows will be music and set dancing, Aunt Sally,

U/8 to U/18 mixed long puck competitions which will cost 5 euro for three attempts and pony rides and bouncing castles. 

   To set the celebrations in motion we will be having a table quiz in Bartley�s Bar, Drumcree  on Friday 17th starting at 9pm while on Saturday evening July 18thwe hope to have a bed push from fore to Collinstown involving members of our juvenile section.  A lord mayor of Collinstown competition is planned with Veronica Kiernan a well known member of our senior camogie team and Niall Conaty of Costcutter�s, Collinstown going head to head with all funds raised going to the hurling club as are funds raised for the whole weekend. We urge all club members to give this your full support. Winner will be announced in the Lough Lene Inn on the night of July 19th.

     To commerate the club�s 40th anniversary a booklet is planned for launching on July 19th and sponsorship for same would be greatly appreciated.  Anyobody with old press cuttings, photos, articles of interest etc should leave same in a sealed envelope in either Costcutters, or Carmel and Theresa�s shop in Collinstown with owners name on envelope.  Every effort will be made to return items safely to owners. More on this in the coming weeks.
