For the costume party I decided that I would go as Morgan Adams from Cutthroat Island.  Not only did this costume coincide with my friend Sophie's costume (she was dressing as a female version of Jack Sparrow from POTC) but I also got to dress as my favourite pirate.
Morgan Adams is the only well known female pirate of cinema history and due to Cutthroat Island's lack of intake at the box office she isn't really that well known, but I have always loved the film and with the release of POTC at the cinema I knew I could get away with dressing as her.  It would also be original as everyone would assume I was a character from POTC and no one else would think of it.

The only problem with making this costume though would be finding a good pattern with everything a pirate costume needs in it. I was relieved to find out one actually existed in the shape and form of McCall's 2258. Not only could I make the
Morgan Adams costume from this but also the Jack Sparrow one too. As both costumes are similar anyway, there would just have to be a few minor alterations in the way of modification.  What pleased me the most about this pattern was its accuracy to the costume detail from the era and of course the fact a pattern for a hat was included.
Of course nothing ever goes as originally planned and after several attempts at converting a men's pattern into a ladies pirate pattern I gave up and saved myself the effort by basically drafting out a pattern for my pirate costume using McCall's 2258 as a basis.  It turned out a little more female orientated than I hoped for and in the end I just thought "Screw it! I'll go as the stereotypical kinky female pirate!".

Sophie and I then decided to both be kinky versions of the pirate we were planning on going as originally to save money on fabric (because face it, a kinky pirate doesn't wear much) and also we were running short on time with Charlotte's Mina Harker dress being such hard work (although it was worth it).

So now I was going as a kinky Morgan Adams inspired pirate.  I decided to keep the basic elements of Morgan's costume so that there was a
difference between mine and Sophie's costumes. I made a large pirate hat like Morgan's featured in the picture above and made a jacket based on Morgan's also featured in the picture above using the McCall's 2258 pattern, only I made mine from a reversable blue upholstery fabric.

We decided that I'd be the more Captain looking pirate what with the big hat and jacket.  Sophie decided to keep to Jack Sparrow's main elements...the three corner hat, bandana and waistcoat therefore looking more random pirate or like a first hand mate.
