Mrs. Shennum's
5th Grade On Friday, January 31, Mrs. Shennum's 5th grade class turned back the clock to 1765. As a conclusion to their study of Colonial America, the class experienced a "Colonial Day." Everyone wore costumes and practiced colonial manners; they stood and were silent during snack time. During P.E. they played a ring toss game, leap-frog, hop-scotch, and tag -- all games played in the colonial era. The afternoon was devoted to colonial crafts such as candle-dipping, making corn husk dolls, making butter, weaving, and designing quilt-squares and samplers. The day ended with afternoon tea, a custom brought by the English settlers to their new home. The day was a great time of hands-on learning about a important time of our country's history. |
