The Movies
For many years Tolkien fans across the globe have been awaiting the day when 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy would be brought to life on the big screen. Up until today, the technology to make the movies didn't exist and the thought of making them was impossible. However now with amazing computer technology, it has been proved possible.
Peter Jackson, the director of the movies, had always been a great fan of the trilogy, and he took on the emmense task of turning the book into a screenplay. He chose his home country, New Zealand, to shoot the movies, for it's breath taking and contrasting scenery. A vast production team of 2400; a very promising cast of both well and unwell known actors and around 26,000 extra's were assembled together to bring the legendary characters to life.
The three movies together have cost an average of $350 million, and took over a year and a half to make (although the cast and crew are still working on the movies today). It is the first trilogy to have been shot simultaneously.
All three installments of the trilogy have gained countless awards and have created over three million dollars at the worldwide box office (FOTR = $871,400,000; TTT = $926,300,000; ROTK = $1,118,500,000) making them three of the biggest selling movies of all time. No doubt they will continue to amaze audiences around the world for many years to come.
