'The Lord of the Rings' was Billy's first appearance on the big screen with a main role. He was best known before this for his role on 'Taggart', a UK crime drama. He has also made an impressive number of appearances on the stage in such works as 'Much Ado About Nothing' and 'The Merchant of Venice'.
Outside of acting, he enjoys making use of his musical talent, with singing and playing both guitar and the bass guitar.

On being asked if he could relate to his character:
