How long have you been playing with Longwave and what is your role in the band?
i have been singing and playing guitar with those guys for almost 3 years.
Did you do anything before Longwave?
i was the valedictorian of my high school class. i climbed the highest
mountain in new york state wearing converse sneakers. i lived in new orleans
and played music on a riverboat. i had sex with my girlfriend. i ate a lot
of ice cream. i got up and went to work in factories in rochester.
How long have you been playing guitar and what made you want to play that instrument?
i have played guitar for 13 years. i saw a reading rainbow episode that had
emmet otter and his jug band and i thought, me too!
i played drums first with my
friends around 10 but then we got into a fight and were grounded from each
other so i picked up guitar for that month because it sounded better by
itself. that is how.
Can you play any other instruments?
sure. how about you?
What equipment do you use?
for guitar i have 2 fender jazzmasters, a fender stratocaster and i just
bought a gibson les paul for this record. i use a vox AC30 amp but sometimes
not. i have a lot of pedals, some new, some old. for singing i just use what
my mother gave me. i am playing dave fridmann's piano and wurlitzer on the
record and we also have a cool old pump organ the folds up into a suitcase.
a guy would bring it around and just set it down and unfold it, ready to go!
What was your childhood dream?
to be an artist.
What did you listen to growing up?
beatles, doors, moody blues, classic rock from my parents. then i liked van
halen for the guitar and for his grin. around 16 i got into U2. it was a
slippery slope down after that...
If you weren't in Longwave what do you think you'd be doing?
playing guitar in the strokes.
Where do you see the band in 5 years?
living in los angeles with big time coke habits and movie star girlfriends
that are on their way out.
If you could go on tour with one band, who would it be and why?
the strokes were pretty much the best one i can think of...they treated us
well and the people we played to were always very warm and receptive. they
operated like a family and we were in on the atmosphere.
Can you recall the moment when you realized that you wanted to play music
for the rest of your life?
i decided to move out of rochester and not to continue with school when i
was 19. i think that would be it.
What's your favorite song to play live? Why?
it changes so much...right now i would say it's between two newer songs,
"wake me when it's over" and "i know it's coming someday". both have words
that i like. also, there is one called "pool song" that we wrote on the
strokes tour that i like.
How do you feel about the mainstream music industry?
i think it is exciting and scary and draining and interesting all at once.
we don't have much to say yet because our relationship with it is changing
right now and we are going to be putting our own collection of noise into
the collective din soon for all to hear or not hear. i hear low or clinic or
flaming lips or strokes and i think things are going ok and then i hear
godsmack and i think that music is the soundtrack to the end of the world
that must be near.
Whats in your cd player right now?
longwave rough mixes. BUT in the cassette player in my car i have jim
reeves.
Are there any bands you think people should know about that are up and
coming?
sure. nada surf (though they have been around a bit they are very very
good), the french kicks, the realistics, scout, the sheila divine. there is
a band called east river pipe that is great on merge records.
What are some of your favorite movies?
home movies. g rated movies. horror movies. i just watched "a clockwork
orange" again and liked it.
movies...42br8a98ewfh9awefEFWEjfblegfeopoggglepb......yu45qw34q22. YUCK.
If there was a movie made about longwave, which band member (besides
yourself) would you want to play you? Why?
do i die? i think shannon would want to play me because he would think it
was so sad that i had such an unfortunate end.
Everybody has an interesting story as to how they got into a band and why
they play music.. what's your story?
in the 5th grade i just wanted to impress two girls named melissa melendez
and jessica stoll. i wonder what became of them sometimes.....when i meet
them again i will stop all of this nonsense.
Anything else you'd like to say to the fans?
thank you for reading this far.
:)
- thanks for filling this out!
no problem. thanks a lot for making our band so important. we are just a
little group with heart and you could be doing a fan site for hoobastank. we
appreciate all of it.
good bye....
