Gig Review - Buffalo, Ny Mohawk Place 12/04/02
Hey, hey, hey,
Last night I traveled from Fredonia up to Buffalo, the
armpit of NY, to see Longwave. If I am counting
correctly I believe that I am closing in on 10 shows
soon. Anyway, it was a great show.
The Mohawk place is in the middle of renovations,
which made it kind of weird to see Longwave on a stage
that was also being used to prop up rolls of
carpeting, and the lighting situation was lacking, but
who gives a fuck about that shit anyway? Now onto the
show...
The set was as follows:
(a note: it seems that every show that I go to is the
show they decide to develop a new set list...)
1. Everywhere you turn (a.k.a. JOE)
2. Best Kept secret
3. Pool Song
4. I know it's coming someday
5. Tidalwave
6. Crushed down and faded
7. Wake me when it's over
8. Daysleeper
9. All Sewn Up
10. Meet me at the Bottom
11. Exit
12. Make me whole
I thought that it was a wonderful mix of older
material, putting Best Kept Secret, and Make me whole
on the set.
It reminded me of the first show that I went to right
after the release of Endsongs. I remember coming home
from that show and not being able to listen to music
or play my guitar because I just thought, "what is the
point..." they were amazing, and still are, but seeing
them was such a jolt that it didn't make any sense to
listen to anything else for a while.
But I digress, anyway they were the tightest I have
ever seen them, especially the ending of Everywhere
You Turn. The feedback and cacophony was ended so
abruptly that I was caught off gaurd. I have never
seen anyone play as much as one as Longwave.
And show after show the dynamic between the guys seems
to be getting stronger, they don't seem to be driving
each other crazy. They are one unit, fixed on one
goal, and that is really great to see.
Ok, so basically it was a fantastic show as always,
and I appreciate that all the guys know my name and
spend some time talking to me, and telling me about
all of their new pedals (and Shannon's really cool
speaker/mic thing that he screams into that is fucking
awesome).
I am going to go out and buy the flaming lips albums
now, because they told me too...
Thanks for the advance copy. I didn't think Steve was
serious when he told me that this was going to be
better than Endsongs, but he was right. Holy shit this
album is amazing. Please press it on vinyl (180g if
you can, thanks)
