Longwave, Orbit and The Sheila Divine
Brownie's NYC Feb. 10th

Well...well. . no, I haven't fallen off the review train - but have simply been busy trying to settle my life here in the Big Apple. Luckily I was able to get out and enjoy this excellent evening of indie rock.

The night began with a performance by Longwave - an, "up and coming band from NYC with a lot of buzz going on" (according to Aaron Perrino, lead singer of The Sheila Divine, whom I luckily had the chance to speak with for about. . say 10 seconds). Longwave consists of some young looking boys; which leads me to conclude that I must be getting older... hmmmmmm. . Well, they definitely deserve any buzz coming their way. They rocked! I had a chance to talk with Steve Schiltz, the lead singer, who repeatedly asked me if I was going to write a positive review. Believe me you have absolutely NOTHING to worry about! With a sound like that, only great things are coming your way (assuming, of course, that you avoid the pitfalls of rock stardom such as: MTV, drugs, cheap women, Vh1 life stories, and all that). Honestly, this band was great! They were a tight-knit unit with some fresh rock and roll licks. The drummer, Jeremy Greene, pounded out clear, concise, and consistent beats. I'm not quite sure how to explain that even though they seem to be the classic indie rock band, their sound was fresh and exciting. At times, the band settled into Sebadoh-like, angst-ridden and somewhat clichéd instrumentals. This was a shame because when they just let loose they absolutely rocked! This will come with time; as they play out more and stop worrying about puny reviewers such as myself. Memorable songs included, "Pretty Face" and "Crushed Down and Faded" off their new CD titled, "Endsongs" that was released on Lunasea records. (Thanks for the CD).
